Good choice for a visit to Cologne; convenient location, good bar, helpful staff.
The room was fine, and location reasonably close to the main sights. The main downside was no coffee machine or even a kettle, which one would expect in an upmarket hotel these days. I would also appreciate better security in accessing the accommodation floors, ie key card to work the lift, again most hotels have this now. There was a bottle of hand wash but no more useful toiletries such as hand lotion or conditioner that are fairly standard. Breakfast was good, loved the oat milk coffee machine! Could have done with a few vegan pastries etc given that you make a feature of vegan breakfasts.
- Booking was incorrect, we had to remind reception desk that we had paid for larger rooms. - Bed mattress was sloped and uneven - Check-in only worked for 1 of 2 rooms booked, had to remind reception to confirm second room. - Shower pipes made a loud, high-pitched whining sound each time I used it. - Room still water bottle not replaced as a courtesy, asked to buy from expensive lobby bar. This was not comparable to other brands of hotel at a similar level. - Wi-Fi dropped frequently, dreadful signal.

We have stayed at Motel One Neumarkt many times as it is our first choice when we're in Cologne. We like the location, the staff are lovely and the rooms are great. We particularly like the relaxed atmosphere in the lounge area and enjoy having a drink there before retiring to our room.

The location is excellent, just a 10-15 minute walk from the center of Cologne and the cathedral. The room is quite basic, but it has everything you need for a short stay. However, there was a note in the room warning that the breakfast room might be too busy and that there could be thieves in the lobby, which is quite concerning. It would be beneficial to enhance security by restricting lift access to hotel guests only, as is common practice in many other hotels.
Excellent location, nice, clean, comfortable and friendly hotel. Good soundproofing, hanging space (considering it was a small room that was good) and decent aircon. A few things knocked the rating and one was the paper cups. Why? Glasses please. A kettle really would have given it a 10/10.
Overall, the stay was pleasant, but the value for money was not satisfactory given the various issues encountered. The room was clean and well equipped, though rather small, and breakfast was very good, with friendly and welcoming staff on duty each morning. However, at check-in (around 4:00 PM, after the official 3:00 PM check-in time), we were informed that the room had only been prepared for one person and that someone would bring the missing duvet, pillow, and extra towels within the hour, which we did not really mind ; but as no one had come by 9 pm I had to go down to reception myself to collect the items, without receiving any apology, even though the staff member who had checked us in earlier was still present, and having to carry the duvet, pillow, and towels myself back to the room across the hotel lobby did not really feel like premium service. In addition, at check-out we were told that the parking fee had already been settled at check-in, as the ticket had reportedly been validated, yet we were still charged €52 — for less than 48 hours — when exiting the car park.
Unfortunately, the bed linens as well as the pillows themselves had clear stains on them. The grout in the shower was turning orange and needed to be cleaned.

Second time in motel one Köln Neumarkt, always a nice experience. Clean and quiet. It’s easy to go everywhere from there in the city.

The hotel was convenient enough for me. The room has everything I need, the location was perfect, the staff were friendly and hospitable. Could’ve been better if they had landlines and fridge in the rooms. But thats just personal preference. Also, the room I was assigned to wasn't completely clean, as I saw traces of a spider and spider webs. Overall, Im satisfied.

Everything was really good. Appreciated the communication about the breakfast situation. You could check the toilet in 291-sometimes it did not stop flushing. Also the curtain had coffee stain. Otherwise everything was perfect.

The location was great and as was the service. The light switch on the en suite didn't always work properly and sounded like it had a loose connection and the safe was locked in the open setting so it was unusable.
This is my third visit . Never failed to impress me about the cleanliness of the room although room is a bit small. Very courteous staff . Simple and quick checkin.

The bar is a wonderful space to have a drink and hang out. The bed is comfortable although the pillows are not very good. One was incredibly thin and floppy. The view of the dim from the balcony is amazing. It would be nice to have a pad and pen, and a water bottle every day. We had an eight night stay.
This was my first time staying in your wonderful city. My choice of this Motel was that it was rather affordable. Still, this Motel was very nice, clean and with wonderful amenities. My room was very comfortable and kept clean every day. The staff is very nice, helpful and very easy to speak with. When I return to Germany, I will stay with Motel One and recommend it to my colleagues. Thank you for a wonderful experience in beautiful Cologne City. Cheers

The maid entered the room without knocking on similar at 9.00am on checkout day; I think this is not acceptable, since checkout time is 12.00
The hotel was well located and was extemely clean. The front reception desk staff were very helpful and friendly and the bar staff provided good service too. We would have appreciated a larger and more varied bar food menu. Good choice of breakfast options and we didn't have to wait for more crockery or for food to be brought. Some hot food would have been even better! We went out for breakfast on our second day. A kettle in the room would have been ideal but we understand why there isn't one. We enjoyed our stay.
The experience was just perfect. Everything was exacly as it should be. The only thing that we missed was a small fridge in he room.

By no means a ‘Rhine’ affair: this road trip takes you from the Ruhr region via Düsseldorf and Cologne to the quintessentially Bonn-esque city of Bonn – ideal if you want to combine a visit to several cities along the Rhine.

The Motel One Cologne-Neumarkt is situated right on the site of the city’s former cattle market, which dates back to 1076. Today, the focus here is less on the cattle trade and more on fashion boutiques, department stores and city life. Schildergasse is right on your doorstep and takes you into the city centre in just a few minutes. The historic town hall, the Museum of Applied Arts, the Hohenzollern Bridge and the River Rhine are all within easy reach. In the old town, you’ll find medieval alleyways, Kölsch breweries and, of course, Cologne Cathedral. Your Hotel Cologne Neumarkt is therefore the perfect choice if you want to combine shopping, culture and a stroll through the city.
The interior design is also inspired by the cathedral. Colourful glass mosaics are reminiscent of its windows, whilst transparent room dividers echo Gothic round arches. Wall installations, slate and marble details translate the stone structure of the landmark into modern hotel design. In this way, the Motel One Cologne-Neumarkt pays homage to Cologne’s most famous building.
A walk around the cathedral
- Dropped Cone: Right outside the hotel door stands what is probably the world’s most expensive ice-cream cone: in the Neumarkt-Galerie, this three-tonne art installation by Pop Art artist Claes Oldenburg (2001, 1.5 million euros) takes centre stage. Get your cameras out!
- Heinzelmännchen Fountain: Opposite the city’s oldest brewery, the ‘Früh’, this fountain – erected in 1897 – commemorates August Kopisch’s legend of Cologne’s hard-working house spirits.
- Colonia Claudia Ara Agrippinensium: Right by the cathedral, it’s well worth taking a detour to see some remnants of Roman history: the old North Gate, the excavated harbour road or the Lysolphturm, a corner tower of the former city wall.

A walk around the Rhine – a stroll across the bridges with stunning views
From our Motel One on Neumarkt, we’ll first head into the Old Town towards . After crossing the Deutzer Bridge, you’ll stroll southwards along the Deutzer Werft towards Poll. Crossing the Cologne-Deutz swing bridge, you’ll pass the Poller Wiesen and Deutz Harbour on your way to the Südbrücke, which offers a wonderful view of the Cologne skyline. Once you’ve crossed the Rhine, the route takes you through the Rheinau Harbour (where there are cafés and bars perfect for a stop-off), past the striking cranes and the Chocolate Museum, and back to Heumarkt. If you fancy it, you can easily extend the route and walk from Heumarkt further upstream along the Rhine to the Hohenzollern Bridge. Cross the river once more there and take a short loop through the Rheinpark before walking back to the city centre via the Zoobrücke. (6 km / 11 km including the detour through the Rheinpark)
