Hotel is nice and clean and modern, perfect for a work trip
Always a lovely visit to a Motel One! Thank you for the warm welcome.
As usual everything to a high standard
Perfect location, friendly welcoming staff, room was clean and comfortable and the cost very reasonable. We have stayed several times now and it is now our go to hotel when we visit Newcastle.
Great value for money Love the reception and bar area - would liked a draft larger option Rooms need net curtains for privacy
Room weirdly had the sink plug upside down, and the toilet brush was still in the toilet when I entered the room. The bed was two single beds pushed together, pillows too high/firm, and noise from being on a low floor (glass bins waking me up - fun). It's always hit and miss staying here, but this time was a miss - slept terribly both nights.
Good location and lovely rooms.
A great location, pleasant staff, nice bar and the room had all we needed, including a very comfy bed and good shower.
Great location and lovely staff
This is my second stay at Motel One Newcastle. The rooms are clean and well appointed with an excellent shower and comfortable bed. For me, being there on a Friday and Saturday night this time around, did mean that I had a pretty noisy stay. Mainly noise from outside and the neighbouring bars and restaurants - no fault of the hotel itself. The staff are always so friendly and helpful though and my experience was excellent, for a second time.
Excellent all round with exceptional friendly staff
We have visited MotelOne in Newcastle several times, more frequently in recent months. Overall, the experience is good, and the rooms are great value for money. But the cleanliness of the rooms varies a lot depending, I believe, on the ability/application of the individual cleaner. There is no consistency, nor any indication that rooms are inspected -- either by arrangement or by surprise -- to meet set standards. For example, soon after entering our room on our last visit found a layer of dirt (greasy skin for months of touches) on the bathroom light switch. I noticed because I accidentally scratched through the yellow-grey layer to the white plastic below. It spoke volumes about the lack of proper weekly cleaning or indeed deep cleaning. We then noticed the same thing in the bathroom sink -- it was yellow rather than white -- and in the toilet, which I scrubbed myself. This was the latest in visits where the cleanliness of the room fell short of ideal. It was enough to prompt me to start looking at other hotels in Newcastle for our next visits. I didn't report this to staff as it was almost 11 pm: We were very tired and, from experience there, had little confidence that any good would come from it. For example, on our previous visit, we had asked why our room hadn't been cleaned while we were out during the day. We were not given any explanation, and told it was too late for cleaning by then as housekeeping was not available. The best that could be done was to give us fresh towels. Also, I now request a room not used for guests with dogs, after having to request a second clean of an assigned room as there was dog hair everywhere. I was lucky the dog had white hair, as otherwise I might now have noticed it and suffered -- I am allergic to dogs. I hope that helps. I'm sad to have to point this out, as I have been a loyal customer of MotelOne for several years in a few locations. The staff are friendly, and the common spaces are amazing. But cleanliness is a must-have.
Lovely clean hotel, friendly and helpful staff and in a great location. The rooms are well appointed although I find the pillows uncomfortable and the rooms are so hot. I didn't sleep well as a result of these two things so not ideal. I love this hotel for it's convenience and modernity but might try another one on my next stay now.
Wonderful hotel, central location, friendly staff
Staff were very friendly and location was good. But the shower pressure was very poor, there was no phone in the room, I had to go down to reception to collect an iron at 8am because when I called there were not enough staff to bring one to my room.
Very nice staff very pleased
I love this hotel, really relaxed vibe, funky decor, great location, great breakfast, friendly helpful staff. Hope to return soon
Stayed many times, staff excellent as always and rooms always clean and tidy, breakfast really good
Great hotel, fantastic location, very pretty downstairs, nice rooms, let down by terrible non effective air conditioning.
Location, price, staff all excellent.
Hotel in a Central location, near to shops and bars, friendly staff, clean and well maintained
Hotel clean and tidy. Centrally located. Not much room to unpack and store clothes and wasn’t keen on plastic cups for tea and coffee. But for a 2 night stay it was worth the money. Bed and pillows very comfortable so slept well. Tv channels basic.
Splendid stay ! Can't wait to return. Wonderful deco and relaxing lounge. Clean and perfectly kept.
The aircon didn’t work and the room was too hot to sleep. There were no bedside tables. The bed had ceiling high wood surrounds which I knocked my head off several times whilst trying to sleep. I would not stay here again.
The entrance and reception is lovely. Nice bar area and outside terrace. If you are looking for somewhere central to restaurants and bars (which we were) it is the perfect location. The rooms are tiny, so much so that the bathroom door felt like we were in a caravan. We had to move rooms to a larger one but still very pokey. Both rooms had wood chip wallpaper which I haven’t seen since the 70’s. We did stay over the bank holiday weekend but the walls are so thin and the people opposite were having a party till 4am. Not worth the £170 for a (so called) double room.
Lovely hotel, great.location, friendly staff, clean rooms. No complaints.
Services were good Only issue was parking
Great location and lovely hotel
Nice stay as normal. Reception staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. However we had a problem with the toilet not flushing late evening. Maintenance had gone home so Reception fixed it for us which was great. However after using the toilet during the night it happened again and water running was a constant noise during the night unfortunately. Not the receptionist fault, she did her best and thought it was sorted, however it did unfortunately disturb my sleep.
Great location with friendly staff. Room rather small with no frills. Bar did t seem to offer draught beers.
All staff were great. Room overlooked a very narrow street and a busy gym opposite. Very, very easy for gym users on multiple floors to see into my room but there were no net curtains or blinds. It was a lovely sunny evening, such a shame I had to close the blackout curtains and put the lights on.
Rooms nice and clean and bright, but the only thing is that the rooms are so HOT. even with the window open and turning down the heating. Makes it really difficult to sleep.
Great wee hotel.
Lovely room very clean quite impressed
I really like this hotel, it's smack bang in the city centre, lots of pubs cocktail bars and restaurants around, the only 3 little problems I have are the memory foam mattresses, I hate them you cook in them especially in the summer, and the noise from the pubs and restaurants emptying bottles in the bins around 6/7 am wakened us up, I know the hotel has no control over other businesses, but surely something should be in place between the businesses that bottles and glasses should not be emptied until at least 9 am, people are paying for a good nights sleep rest and relaxation, we asked to be moved to another room not facing the courtyard, and it was no problem, so 10 out of 10 for their help in accommodating us. also the bar is way to expensive, you very rarely see anyone in it, and that will be why, people are not going to pay over the top prices for drink when you can walk out the main door and pay from £3.75 to £5 for a pint of beer! other than that, I enjoy staying here.
Lovely hotel, very clean. It is my go to hotel when going out in Newcastle. The reception staff were very kind and put me onto a lower room as I'm claustophobic and don't use lifts. Next Morning they kindly allowed me a late checkout until 3pm as I wasn't feeling very well. Nice bar area and had a nice toasty, love the glass straws for the drinks. Great little hotel and very efficient. Great location. Will be back!
Beautifully set out. Very modern feel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Of all the hotels I’ve been to it was by far the easiest to check in/check out which is fantastic it saved me lots of time. Couldn’t have asked for any better. And for the price I’m blown away. I’m used to paying double/sometimes triple for not even half the hotel this was…wow!
Staff are very friendly . Great check out time noon and good location . Plus a complimentary bottle of water which was very helpful :)
I expected the breakfast to include hot food also, like scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, etc. It would have also been good to have a small fridge, which I think is a necessity for a longer stay of over 2 nights.
Room was lovely and clean. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Shower was perfect which is very rare in hotels. We stayed over as we were on a night out and although we went back to the room at 3am we were quiet and respectful as it seemed all other guests were too which made the stay more comfortable and at ease. We will stay again.
Friednly staff and nice hotel. Room are starting to show their age but great for the price.
Lovely and helpful staff all with buckets of personality and a can do attitude. Gorgeous communal sitting areas. Bedrooms lack character, space and amenities . Pet friendly at a £15 nightly charge which is great . No in room refrigeration or ironing facilities. Television hard to use . The in room coffee/tea facilities used plastic cups instead of ceramic mugs which was a …new experience. Told in the evenings that the door was by key card access but on Saturday when the town was quite rowdy we were shaken down for our details by a security guard. Although for obvious safety reasons this felt more unsafe and oddly intimidating. The location is in a Gorgeous little side street and close to everything … even the festivities happening on bigg market street . You wouldn’t have to leave the area if you had no plans , coffee shops, bars, comedy clubs and clothing stores all in close proximity. Didn’t personally get the breakfast… found it odd that you had to walk through the buffet of food in the open to exit the building from the lifts .Had a great time but with those amenities provided in room would be better <3
Quick and easy check-in Room to warm and cooling system not working
We had a great time, and will certainly be coming back.
I had an awesome experience with Motel One. Warm and comfortable, clean throughout and friendly staff.
Room. Clean, reception staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful
We chose this hotel for its great location, and overall the bar area was pleasant and a nice place to relax. Unfortunately, our experience was significantly affected by how an issue with our room was handled. During our stay, the bathroom door came off its hinges while my daughter was opening it. Thankfully, she wasn’t injured, but it could easily have been much worse. We reported this to reception and were told maintenance would be informed. Later that day, when we returned to the hotel, our key cards no longer worked. Reception reissued them, but no mention was made of the earlier issue. When we got back to our room, the bathroom door had been completely removed with no explanation. As we were heading out again, we asked reception for an update and were then told—quite abruptly—that we had to move rooms immediately. This was frustrating, as it hadn’t been communicated earlier when we were already at reception. The situation was made worse by the rude and defensive attitude we encountered. Despite having taxis waiting and friends with us, we were told we had to move all our belongings straight away for “health and safety” reasons. No assistance was offered, and no apology was given—it felt as though we were being blamed for the situation. This was particularly disappointing as, up until that point, our stay had been very enjoyable. We were visiting Newcastle for a meaningful and emotional weekend in memory of my husband, who passed away six months ago and was from the area. While we didn’t let this incident ruin our time, it did leave us feeling let down by the level of service.
Lovely hotel, fabulous staff, great location.
Good central location. We paid £71 for double room on a Friday night without breakfast. Front desk and bar all great, nice looking place too. Bedrooms small and simple, everything you need. Our go to in Newcastle.
Fine, room 310. Sadly it overlooked a boxing club across the road with lots of fire hazard material , big bags of cotton materials, which made me somewhat uncomfortable. Quiet enough and glad we were able to open the windows. Split level was not expected and we only had one bin which meant we had to carry the used tea bags across the apartment.

Location and surroundings
Hotel Newcastle
Our centrally-located Motel One Newcastle is warmed by the charm of raw brickwork, in the form of a genuine brick façade with an industrial style harking back to the history of this working-class city. The interior design takes as its motif the bridges over the Tyne, and the stylish faux-industrial bar pays homage to the achievements of Robert Stephenson, who designed the Rocket steam locomotive. Real leather furniture by Baxter and fine rugs by Jan Kath complement the look. Elegant details such as chairs by Arketipo with distinctive steel frames, and mirrored shelving stocked with carafes of whisky add touches of charm.
And of course, it is no accident that the striped wallpaper at reception is in Newcastle United colours. Even the location in the city’s historic centre suits the industrial-modern style of our affordable Design Hotel. Sights such as the Theatre Royal, Grey’s Monument and Newcastle Town Hall are close at hand, the hotel is handy for the central station, and the airport is easily accessible.
Book your room in our Design Hotel and experience the rich contrasts between “old” industrial and “new” modern design.
