Very nice and very busy Hotel. Fully booked as the Motorshow Essen and the Christmas market are on. Even the hotel is fully booked all the stuff is very nice and everything good maintained and very clean. Just perfect management. Thank you very much for a relaxing stay…
Friendly checkin and bar staff, very clean and spacious room, interesting building and bar.
Very nice and clean hotel right in the heart of Essen. Always a pleasure to enjoy a drink at the bar where the bartenders make you feel comfortable after a busy working day.
Very friendly staff and nice accommodation
Overall the experience was good. I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and I believe they have updated their rooms, which I like. The chair and desk were fine for the work I had to do while traveling. Plenty of seats in the lounge. My one downside was breakfast. Perhaps falsely, but I remember the breakfast being better, with scrambled eggs and pancakes. It is really just a cold continental breakfast. Plenty of breads, pastries, spreads and cold cuts. A pile of cooked eggs in the shell, though unsure if hard or soft boiled. I wished for 17euro that there was a bit more hot food, but oh well.
I had to disconnect the TV from the socket on arrival to stop the annoying flames on every entry to the room. I regret not having done this in previous years. I understand it as a gimmick, but having to turn OFF the TV on every entry is just a pain.
It’s a great hotel, the breakfast is nice and the staff is mostly great. I am stayong at Motel One every year for Spiel and the experience is overall good.
Alles gut.
Great vallue for money. Missing some kind of simple loyalty program. After 10 nights 1 night half price stuff like that
Service top, Ambiente top, Zimmer top
Very helpful staff!
Whenever in Essen for business I am staying at MotelOne. Convenient location with park house across the street. Great design, comfortable beds and tasty breakfast.
The Essen Motel One is far behind all other Motel Ones we visited recently in terms of friendliness and attention of the staff, room service and overall experience.
Remarkable service!
The only one little thing - the AC wasn’t really working
Alles super 👍
Alles prima
Friendly staff and atmosphere. Motel One does the basics very well and doesn't bother with unnecessary frills, just what I am looking for. The central location in Essen is perfect for coming and going, it was all very relaxed. Breakfast buffet was perfectly ok, though not outstanding. In the room I would have liked a bit more space to store clothing, but not a big deal. Finally I always find it a shame when there are no coffee/tea machines in the room, even though it's uncommon in Germany. The price was fair considering the high demand for the Taylor Swift concert.
Friendly staff, easy online quick check in.
Super friendly staff, quick check-in Room as expected - clean and very comfy bed and pillows
Good location, nice atmosphere & design (bar, rooms...), friendly staff, good pricing, good offering at the bar. And I love your Eisbonbons ;)
Happy to stay at an excellent property. 10/10 for most everything except the room temperature. The weather was not great and the room very cold. I asked at reception and was told to turn the air conditioning off, that was the only solution and it made no difference. I slept in my clothes. Everything else was great.
Nice, cosy and clean room, fast check-in at reception, nice staff...
Logging into the hotel was terrible.Even though I sent the address of the company no one was able to put it in the invoice.
Alles Top!
Always reliable - really nice room, excellent bar and lounge area, and great breakfast.
The room was clean and WiFi was very good. I had a couple of issues though - I was in Room 3.44, and there was a regular issue with the walls shaking/rattling (it almost felt like someone banging on my door), which I assume happened when some particular door elsewhere in the hotel was closed. This was very distracting and woke me up every single night. The curtains were also not great at blocking out light. My final issue was that housekeeping came quite early in the day (9am).
Always a pleasure to visit Motel One in Essen.
Great location, comfortable hotel. great breakfast.
Love this hotel, especially the bar. Friendly service, clean rooms and fast check out, what more do you need.
The service is at a high level, everyone is very friendly. The rooms are clean and nice.
Excellent location, friendly smiley staff. Larger rooms than in Berlin (Alexanderplatz) or in Bonn. The only thing missing is a cup of coffee/tea in the rooms.
Steeds is alles in orde!
It was a great experience yet again. This was our first stay in Motel One Essen, but they keep the standards high as we expected/hoped.
Very good service all round , will revisit in the future.
Positif. Je reviendrai. 🫶🥂😁
Very good hotel, right in the centre of town and still very quiet rooms.

Super Hotel
Everything was great, I am very satisfied!
Coming from the U.S. I expected the rooms to be much more compact, so this was satisfactory. A few of my concerns were that the water pressure from the shower head was very low, to the point that I had to stand very close to the shower head/wall to wash or hold it the whole time. Also, the auto hinged closing bathroom door was very annoying, until I was able to rig it to stay open with a rubber band. Finally, it didn't seem like the thermostat was working, but once I figured out how to open the window, I was able to cool off every night. Compared to other accommodations, it was good. With a few adjustments, it could be great.
Excellent as usual - but no smiley faces on the boiled eggs on Thursday and Friday! They always start my day with a laugh! See you again next year.
A wonderful place to stay in the heart of Essen, clean and comfortable rooms with a great breakfast and bar area. Well furnished with a very relaxing finish.
Hotel lobby & breakfast area were far too warm, but understandable considering cold outside. The family room was very small, and the couch bed was very uncomfortable, let alone broken. My kids sunk into the middle of the couch bed. Fact that we had to pay €49 extra for an uncomfortable nights sleep of our kids was odd. Also, invoicing went wrong: we were also charged €15 extra for 1 child, which later was corrected when offer was compared with invoice on our initiative. For remainder: hotel lay out, comfort, cleanliness and breakfast all very satisfactory.
1a!
Perfect location, Motel One usual comfort, great lobby and service! Sad that free bottle of water was not available to the members, as it's usually the case in other locations.
Beautiful hotel.
First time at a Motel One. Would definitely go back!

Location and surroundings
The beating heart of Germany
Welcome to Motel One – your accommodation in a prime location in Essen’s city centre. Get ready for a mini trip through time as soon as you step inside this listed building, which was built in the 1950s. To bring the spirit of that era back to life, we’ve tailored our hotel’s interior design to reflect the post-war years of Germany’s economic miracle (or ‘Wirtschaftswunder’). After checking in, you’ll notice something straight away: we’ve turned our lobby into something special (if we say so ourselves) by decking it in turquoise. Curved floor lamps, sideboards and our famous egg chairs combine to create an authentic, feel-good 1950s atmosphere. Monopolising the rear wall of the reception are black and white photos by photographer Horst Lang, which show scenes of daily life featuring the city’s residents between 1950 and 1970 – back when the Ruhr region was still Germany’s beating industrial heart. Our cosy One Lounge is the perfect place to reminisce about days gone by, though our guests can also come here to enjoy a healthy breakfast, relax with a coffee, or spend the evening at the bar with a glass of wine in hand. We have more in store, too: free WiFi and modern rooms where you can crawl into your comfortable box-spring bed after enjoying a hot shower. We’ll even throw in a good night’s sleep for no extra charge – how’s that for service at the right price? We’re sure there’s nowhere else you’d rather stay in Essen other than our affordable hotel.
You don’t have to worry about finding us, either. You can reach our hotel directly from Essen’s main train station either by foot or by getting off at Hirschlandplatz underground station, which is right next to the hotel. No detours required. It also means you can take a trip to Bochum, Dortmund, Duisburg or Düsseldorf with ease – handy if you have a business meeting arranged.
Of course, Essen itself has enough to offer to its visitors, being in the heart of the Ruhr region. The city’s long history is encapsulated by Essen Cathedral, which is a stone’s throw from your hotel. Alternatively, how about a bit of free fresh-air goodness for your body and soul? The many parks around the city are the perfect place to relax and are the reason why Essen has earned the title of ‘greenest city in North Rhine-Westphalia’. The location of our Motel One design hotel, right in the centre of the pedestrianised zone on Kennedyplatz, makes it ideal – and good value for money – for anyone looking for adventure and enjoyment. The city centre is packed with restaurants, bars, museums and stores, all waiting to be discovered. Excellent connections mean that you’re never far from either the city’s hotspots or the surrounding area. A few highlights include Grillo-Theater, Colosseum Theater, Messe Essen exhibition centre, Lake Baldeney and Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, the symbol of the Ruhr region. This industrial landmark is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and definitely shouldn’t be missed. So: get ready and see you soon in Essen!
