"Very nice hotel, friendly, clean and in a good position. Economic, except for the bar (water costs 4 Euros!)"

“Als der Pott noch kochte”
Our Motel One Essen brings the heyday of the Ruhr area's heavy industry back to life. Photographs from the "Als der Pott noch kochte” series by Essen native Horst Lang depict the mining years of the Fifties. Original industrial lamps and an image of Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners, contribute to the authentic atmosphere of our themed hotel. Take in the atmosphere of our comfortable One Lounge while reminiscing, enjoying a healthy breakfast or a cappuccino, or philosophising over a glass of fine wine. A truly irresistible retreat.
Situated at the centre of the Ruhr area, Essen – the greenest city in North Rhine-Westphalia – with its many leisure spaces offers much more than heavy industry and mines. Our design hotel is located in the pedestrian area at Kennedyplatz, surrounded by countless shopping and entertainment options. The long history of the city is reflected in Essen Cathedral, a stone’s throw away from your hotel. To get to Zeche Zollverein, the symbol of the city, simply take an underground train from nearby Hirschlandplatz station. The same underground network also takes you to the central station with its inter-city connections. Welcome to Essen!
