Clean room, air conditioned, plenty of space

This hotel is excellent! I traveled for my work and have been all over the world. Motel One has everything one needs—sufficient room, good bed, nice bathroom, wonderful breakfast—at an amazing price! Oh yes, and very competent and friendly staff
I stayed at Motel One in Essen with my family once again. The receptionist was super friendly. The room was big enough and clean. The breakfast selection was sufficient for us (if you’re expecting 8 different salads, salmon, and various egg dishes, then Motel One isn’t really the place for you). Since we were invited to a baptism, I had called ahead to ask if it would be possible to check in a little early. They couldn’t guarantee it, but in the end they made it happen—awesome!!!
Clean and functional room with excellent air condition and solid bathroom lighting. Optional breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of items and surprisingly good coffee. The bar is nothing short of fantastic offering a wide variety of spirits and cocktails with the Motel One focus on a collection of Gins from around the world. Bar staff friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend the Expresso Martini.

There was a event at Kennedyplatz - so far so good. But it is absolute inadequate to charge 230 Euro per night due to trade fair without a chance to get sleep before 00:30 (half past 12 AM!!!) on Friday and Saturday. Strong mismatch of price versus value.

Waterpressure in the Bathroom was abysmal. The cleaning between day one and day two was rather bad.

super friendly staff. I even got a Cappuccino free of charge , even I did not book the breakfast. Very kind and sweet. My room was nice and quite - and spacious. I am looking forward to my next stay there. Many thanks for everything.

Stylish, clean hotel, the room (and especially the bath) size was not ideal, but nice. The sink drain was clogged, that would need some cleaning / improvement.
Motel One provides excellent value for money. The rooms are not large, but nice, comfortable and clean. The location in Essen is great, with nearby parking at Kennedyplatz. Breakfast is nice as well. The hotel is situated in the Heroldhaus — it is definitely worth taking the stairs at least once to admire the architectural features.
This is a very good no frills hotel. It is modern and very clean, with a very comfortable bed. All the important things in a hotel room are excellent here.

It was pleasant — good service, nice breakfast, beautiful architecture. Thank you. One really tiny thing that could be improved: The TV set (with the fireplace gif) is turned on automatically whenever one enters the room. This seemed unnecessary; I had to switch it off manually each time. Let me stress that this really tiny issue did not change my overall view of your excellent hotel. The best location in town !!!
Love this hotel. Great location, friendly staff and cool bar. The only complaint I have is there used to be an extra chair in the rooms to sit on or relax on, now there is only a small hard chair for the way to tiny desk.

Great staff, clean room, and comfortable bed. Some noise from outside, the breakfast is very overpriced, and very expensive room (due to Essen Spiel). The beer is never cold enough! There should also be draft beer.

It was a nice stay. There was no fridge in the room and I could not cast from my phone to the tv. The room was cleaned every day even with the "No cleaning, please" sign on the door. Regarding the bathroom, it seemed like there was only a weak ventilation, and the knob for the water in the shower was difficult to turn. There was no password on the wifi, meaning that anyone can access it and in principle the data transfers.
150 a night for a single-room is too expensive.
Staff and service was very great. Price reasonable. The only change I wish you could make, is to ensure which floor you can stay on in advance. I have severe fear of heights/vertigo, and cant go higher than the 2nd floor. Thankfully, we traveled in a big group of more than 100 people, and I was able to switch rooms internally within our group (initially had 5th floor, which changed to 3rd floor after talking to staff. I ended on 2nd floor after switching internally).
It was good in general, except hair presence on the bed shits. That was awful, to be honest. I don’t know their origin, maybe it was just fibers from the pillow, but it really looked like very short hair.
A good stay - the bar staff were super friendly! The room could do with a couple of extra pillows - apart from that all good.

Everything was perfect. I arrived at 2am in the morning, but reservation still in the system and check-in was fast. The invoice wasn't sent to me by email as promised.

Hôtel Essen
Bienvenue dans notre Motel One idéalement situé dans le centre-ville d’Essen. Ici, nous vous accueillons entre les murs d’un bâtiment classé datant des années 1950 et vous invitons à un petit voyage dans le temps. L’aménagement intérieur fait revivre les années 1950 et l’époque du « Wirtschaftswunder » (« miracle économique ») au sein de l’hôtel.
Après l’enregistrement, une évidence s’impose : pour l’aménagement du lobby, nous avons misé, avec sobriété, sur le turquoise : lampadaires, buffets et nos célèbres Egg Chairs assurent, grâce à leur esthétique, une atmosphère, chaleureuse et authentique, tout droit sortie des années 1950. Une atmosphère renforcée par les photographies en noir et blanc du photographe Horst Lang qui ornent les murs : elles illustrent le quotidien des habitants de la ville entre 1950 et 1970 et nous replongent à l’époque où le pot chauffait encore (Als der Pott noch kochte). Dans le chaleureux One Lounge de l’hôtel, nos hôtes peuvent non seulement s’immerger dans ce passé, mais aussi prendre un petit-déjeuner équilibré, savourer un café ou terminer la journée en beauté, au bar, autour d’un verre de vin. Nous avons encore plus à vous offrir : une connexion Wi-Fi gratuite et des chambres modernes où vous pourrez vous blottir dans un confortable lit boxspring après avoir pris une douche bien chaude. Cela vous garantit un sommeil reposant et au meilleur rapport qualité-prix. Où passer la nuit à Essen si ce n’est dans notre hôtel à prix abordable ?
Se rendre jusqu’à notre hôtel est également un jeu d’enfant car il est accessible directement et sans détour depuis la gare : à pied ou en métro jusqu’à l’arrêt Hirschlandplatz, qui se trouve à proximité de l’hôtel. Il vous est ainsi possible de partir pour une excursion ou d’assister à une réunion professionnelle à Bochum, Dortmund, Duisburg ou Düsseldorf.
Mais la ville d’Essen, au cœur de la Ruhr, mérite également la visite. La cathédrale d’Essen, qui se trouve à proximité de l’hôtel, rappelle la longue histoire de la ville. Que diriez-vous d’un programme gratuit pour le corps et l’esprit, mêlant bien-être et grand air ? Les nombreux parcs d’Essen invitent à la détente et lui confèrent le titre de la ville la plus verte de Rhénanie-du-Nord–Westphalie. Grâce à son emplacement privilégié donnant sur la Kennedyplatz, dans la zone piétonne, notre Motel One Essen à petit prix est l’hébergement idéal pour les voyageurs curieux. Le centre-ville propose en effet une kyrielle de restaurants, bars, musées et boutiques. Grâce à un excellent accès aux transports en commun, vous ne serez qu’à quelques encablures des lieux animés de la ville, mais aussi de ses environs : le Grillo-Theater, le Colosseum Theater, le parc des expositions d’Essen, le Baldeneysee ou le symbole de la Ruhr, la mine de charbon de Zollverein.
