Great welcome and exchange during check in. Beautiful room, great location.
We had no hot water for 2 mornings. Maintenance responded very politely and promptly on day one and arranged to return later. Unfortunately, when he returned my husband had the"do not disturb' notice on the door which was respected. Fair enough, our error, but it would have been helpful to let us know this before our cold shower on the second morning. Reception staff were really good, although as above, could have been more proactive and messaged us about the lack of maintenance on day one. Housekeeping need more training in customer service. A young man with a laundry hopper avoided any sort of acknowledgement as he almost ran us down as we pressed ourselves against the wall.
Lovely hotel very centrally located. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Only down side is that rooms are small, so not enough space for more than a night’s stay. Paid for city view and tbh it wasn’t a great view. On the third floor so window was at chest height. Also very noisy with window open due to the hotel opposite’s air conditioning fans.
Location is awesome.
Good hotel, and good location. Next time I want also to have egg and bacon for breakfast
We had a super nice stay. There was only a few things: There were some hairs on our towels and toilet seat when we checked in. It would have been nice with a trashcan in the room and not just the bathroom. More amenities and not just a shampoo and body wash in one. The possibilities to stream on the tv. But our stay was still great.
I found the staff friendly and welcoming, especially a member of the housekeeping staff ( long beard gentleman - 4th floor). The room was compact but lovely. I would stay again but not in August due to the cost. The only thing that disappointed me was the breakfast, it was continental and scattered around the room with no explanation. The baskets were set to high for me to reach.
Room was clean and felt new with finishes and linens and bathroom. Great location. Friendly staff. All excellent for the cost of the room.
The staff at this hotel are stellar! Our first interaction was with Haley, and she set a pretty high bar! All other staff were super friendly and helpful. Location of the hotel is great, we found it to be very walkable to major sights, great shops and the Waverly train station.
This is my first time staying at a Motel One hotel. Love the beautiful room and fantastic view. Location is superb too! Will definitely come back when I next visit Edinburgh!
We only spent one night there, but they were very efficient and also respectful of my request for a room with a window. For the money, it was well spent. Plus centrally located; also very close to the train station. Very convenient and clean. I’d stay there anytime. Susan Osborne.
Perfect for Waverley station, everything so straightforward, no fuss, so clean, comfortable and friendly. Will use Motel One now wherever we travel.
Great location. Surprising quiet for a hotel downtown. Fantastic staff.
Very clean, staff were very nice, good lounge area
Great location, comfortable room, clean, good accomodations.
Very friendly staff, good location and reception.
Comfortable but unremarkable; rather odd decor. Staff courteous and helpful but I chose this hotel primarily for its location
The girl on reception was helpful and friendly . I asked for recommendation for an Italian and one of ones she recommended- we went to and it was lovely . ( sorry can’t remember her name but thanks to her ) Our room was ready before time so we could leave our bags which we were grateful for . The room had been decorated as my friend and l had gone for our 60th birthday ( thank you Wally)
Hotel staff is professional and curtious Hotel is operated with good team
There was no telephone in room to contact reception.
Superb
Excellant location, very comfortable rooms, helpful and kind staff, great breakfast.
Hotel was very nice. It was difficult to push the door open. T.V difficult. I like a more simple system to access. One staff member (I wish I could remember her name) was very helpful and went the extra mile One of the others was tired. The rest were helpful
Very kind and fast reception (with online option), baggage storage was a good advantage, room was clean and well designed. There were only two disadvantages (bathroom lock didn't work and there was barely sunlight getting through the window)
Excellent hotel with great staff, wonderful breakfasts, great location, and great room. I keep coming back to Motel One, Edinburgh Princes.
Super nice hotel! Super Nice and friendly staff. Excellent location. The only thing that I caused me rated 9 instead of 10 was the selection of the breakfast was really limited😅
Had a wonderful stay. From checking in to checking out the staff were excellent, they were friendly, professional and very helpful. This will always be my go to hotel when visiting Edinburgh.
The staff were great, reception area is gorgeous but the room was a let down. Worst hotel bed I’ve ever slept in and I’ve stayed in everything from hostels to 5 star, I barely slept a wink in my three nights. The mattress was like a brick and there were no pillows only these lumpy odd shaped cushions that were made of cut up foam pieces. The room really had less basic facilities than your standard 2 or 3 star budget chain hotel has, which generally I’d look past but the bed and pillows was the sticking point.
All in all, decent stay. Staff helpful and friendly, hotel is well presented and represented. Clean throughout. Somewhat disappointed to have been charged for a breakfast that wasn't asked for, or consumed. I only noted this today, when I checked my inbox but point of learning for myself would be to confirm no charges on checkout. No food options in the bar was slightly frustrating, but a short walk outside of course, there are plenty of options, though not quite the ideal when travelling on business, and working from the lounge. Value for money - the rate was steep, granted a concert was on nearby.
Super experience with check-in and check-out. The desk workers were very friendly and helpful. The beds and pillows were comfortable, and the bathroom was very nice (apparently recently remodeled). If staying here, be prepared to live out of your suitcase since there is no furniture for stashing clothing. The security safe was broken and inoperable.
The hotel was very much what we wanted, well located and so far as we could see well run. The rooms were clean and well kept and the staff efficient, friendly and ready to help. A particular thank you for the member of reception staff who, after the housekeeping staff had gone off duty, helped us when we spilt a cup of tea on the edge of the bed.
We have stayed in Motel One’s before but this one is by far the best. The room was similar to others we’ve had, size, facilities etc . We had a city view, looking over the station ( it’s directly across the road from Waverley, so very handy). The main difference was the staff. Every member wherever they were, went above and beyond, especially the breakfast staff. Thank you
Absolutely wonderful location and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was wonderful and plenty of selection. We had a problem with our room. On the top floor and the weather was unusually hot. Air conditioning was not working and the room was unbearably hot. The front desk did offer the only other room that was available and it was even worse - again air conditioning was broken and it was a known issue. We did get a floor fan that made it a little more bearable but our stay was a little unpleasant because of this. We are elderly - in our 80’s - and so the heat in the room was a huge issue for us. The door key card took about 15 goes before we could get into the room and again we were told that “the software was being updated/changed and was being fixed” Apart from these issues which we realise the staff could not change for us, we would definitely recommend this hotel.
We have stayed at Motel One, Princes Street the past two years on visits to Edinburgh. The hotel is ideally situated in the hub of the city across from Waverly Station, on Princes Street. Located on the Georgian, New Town side of the central city. It is located close to many of the city's most desirable features, and in easy reach of the Old Town. The hotel operation itself is first rate. It is very affordable for its location in Edinburgh. That said, you don't feel that you're staying in a budget hotel. Everything in the hotel's design is very stylish, modern, and efficient. I will always look to this Motel One property for room availability when traveling to Edinburgh. In fact, I will certainly seek out other Motel One properties when traveling about Europe.
Great location and nice, clean rooms. Our room was on the 1st floor, and it was pretty miserable not being able to open the windows because the AC did not work well. We received one bottle of water on arrival, but they wouldn't give any more after that. Every other hotel during our visit offered as much water as needed. Breakfast was pretty mediocre, nothing hot. It was overall a decent value, just not really any extras.
Friendly and a good location
Stayed here several times now. Location can’t be beaten. Just such a brilliant location to walk to anywhere in the city. Rooms are quite basic but all you need for a city break. Very clean. Bar area clean & welcoming. Can’t comment on breakfast as have never had breakfast at the hotel. Staff are very friendly & helpful. Love this hotel.
From arrival to departure eveything was great. I was allowed in before 3pm and got a very welcome upgrade. Thank you.
Whilst the room was an adequate size, the bed comfortable and check in was smooth and friendly. That’s where the positives end. The shower temperature was not consistent and only having plastic cups was poor. The biggest disappointment was no fridge in the room! The room was ‘cleaned’ but obvious was done with little care or attention to detail.
Very clean and efficient service- they even accommodated my earlier check-in request. Excellent location!
The location was fantastic, you can see right over Princes St ftom the bar. The staff were very friendly & accommodating. I would definitely recommrnd this hotelfor a stay in Edinburgh.
The staff are amazing, especially the super friendly woman from Aotearoa New Zealand at reception. Everyone was kind. But the rooms are pretty horrible. The pump for body wash in our shower was not working properly, the bed side tables were minuscule, and nowhere to put clothes, except three hangers. Having stayed in so many hotels across Europe and the UK, it is hard to see how the room was worth 250 GBP a night. Convenient yes, but very over priced, I guess typical for Edinburgh.
Great location, lovely staff, easy check-in & out, comfy bed and good shower! 😊
We enjoyed our stay overnight in Edinburgh at Motel one. Good position and room overlooking Princes Street. Clean and comfy room, breakfast was welcome in the morning, would have preferred some cooked items though.
It was a lovely day. We have been there before. Well I appreciate that the motel needed updating, the changes in the dining room make it difficult to manage reaching breads, and fruits with how high on shelves they have items. And now things are so separated. Also, while I'm sure modernizing motel ones is part of your agenda., The neon signs and new furnishings look cheap and maybe in an attempt to be contemporary, de-class your hotel tremendously
I love staying at motel 1 Great staff, comfortable rooms, convenient location. I keep coming back!
Comfortable room, amazing view, excellent location, friendly staff
Good price-Service ratio, but still rather expensive and rather small rooms and bathrooms for two persons. Breakfast is rich, bad coffee. Staff very friendly.
The best thing about the hotel is its location. 4 minutes from the old town, 2 minutes from Waverley station, all the sights are within easy reach. The room is good, except for the lack of a trash can, the only one is in the toilet. It is cleaned daily, towels are changed, toiletries are replenished. The breakfast is good, but not impressive. You won't leave hungry, but for five nights there was nothing different from the previous day. The staff is extremely polite and smiling. Overall, I recommend it because of the incredible location.
the Motel one was quite nice. The staff was very pleasant and helpful when asked for assistance or recommendations. The room were quite nice and very clean. We spent time in the lounge with a large group and found it quite comfortable and the bartenders were great.

Road Trip Edinburgh-Glasgow
Only three good reasons that speak for Scottland: Discover history, breathe sea air, taste whisky!
Hotel Edinburgh Princes
Being the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh naturally has a long history with royal personages. In our Motel One Edinburgh-Princes we’ve cannily picked up on Scotland's royalty-related motifs, welcoming visitors with illustrious design combining antique candelabras and opulent velvet sofas. From the booths of the second-floor bar, there are majestic views onto the famed Princes Street and Edinburgh's history, while in our One Lounge, you can start the day in imperious fashion with a healthy breakfast, and relax later on in the company of royal portraits.
And the area around this Design Hotel at Waverley Station is well worth exploring, with the National Gallery of Scotland, Carlton Hill and Edinburgh Castle just a short stroll away. If you’re travelling on business, our design hotel is just as handy for Edinburgh International Conference Centre and the airport.
