Although the location is centrally located I would not recommend this hotel unless you do t mind the street noise all night long. The bed was extremely hard and the pillows were absolutely terrible. They were very nice about storing luggage for free while we went on a tour. The breakfast was also good.
Unfortunately the experience was very negative. We found underwear in our room, obviously the room was not cleaned properly. I asked for a different room and unfortunately there the heating was not working properly. We received a removable heater but and the staff was nice but overall it was a very disappointing experience.
Great location, especially if you are travelling into Edinburgh by train. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Rooms and hotel were clean and bright.
Excellent location. Lovely bar & lounge. Very good continental breakfast. Staff friendly. Comfortable room, bed was comfortable but we both felt we could roll off the sides of the bed as they dipped down. The only complaint was the piped music in the bar and lounge which was particularly loud and so it was difficult to have a conversation - when we asked Reception they advised that there wasn’t anything they could do about the volume as it was controlled by Germany!
First time here and I was taken care off so well. The only reason it is not a ten has to do with the room not being able to get warm enough despite kicking up the temp. The room was lovely and the note for my birthday exquisite.
Nice room decor etc quiet breakfast excellent. Staff excellent in general wee down side no waste bin in room. One in bathroom. All in all we will.be back
The front desk staff were amazing and so nice
Clean, good staff , comfortable
This hotel had what I needed in a very convenient location. Staff are very friendly and helpful and it’s great having the bar with light snacks. Hotel was warm and that helped with the cold weather. Only negative was that my bed was a little bit too firm.
Really lovely stay . Great location lovely staff .
Friendly staff en clean rooms . Great Location .
I made a small mistake with my booking so had to book an extra night rather taken aback by the cost. Could you tell me why so expensive when surely good for you to have that extra booking. My only complaint.
My husband and I stayed here recently and I have to say this hotel was excellent. It just across from the train station so close to shops. Our room was very clean and bedding was crispy clean.continental Breakfast was lovely everything was fresh and presented well. Staff were excellent very friendly and bubbly. Have to say Cameron was second to none this girl went above and beyond for us. Would highly recommend this hotel. One thing I would say is ask for a room with the view of the castle when booking. Definitely will be back.
We loved your friendly staff. We are sending Hailey (sorry if the name is spelled wrong) 2 thums up! Every hotel need people like her! The bed was very hard.
It close to everything
Great location, clean and well appointed room. Lovely staff. Our only concern was our location above the Reception and Lounge (RM237) as the speakers for these areas are mounted in the ceiling and reverberated into our room.
Everything was wonderful as the review below indicates. The only exception was the shower drainage system...the floor wasn't level which resulted in significant standing water.
Excellent location and place to stay in Edinburgh. Highly recommend!
We had a lovely time staying with you. When we arrived, even though busy, the reception staff were polite, charming and efficient. We were celebrating our 20th anniversary and they kindly upgraded us to a wonderful room. Check out was the same - and we'd like to especially mention Ieva - who was extremely helpful, very polite, kind and a credit to your company. Overall we had an amazing time and would recommend your company to others.
I’ve stayed in a few different branches of the hotel and this was definitely the most spacious hotel in terms of room space, storage for my clothes etc. We had a really rough night’s sleep however - the bed was just so firm and the pillows were all really soft that there wasn’t enough support for heads/necks and we woke up in a lot of pain. I wouldn’t stay at a Motel One again just because of the worry about not getting a good night’s sleep unfortunately.
Tea/coffee facilities weren't great. Not enough sugar or coffee sachets. Didn't like the cardboard type cups. Also no glasses for drinking the complimentary bottled water! I did ask at reception for glasses and was handed them, rather than them being taken up to the room. I was having a drink in the lounge then heading out, so the glasses got left there. For the price paid for the room, I did not feel it was value for money.
All staff extremely helpful.
Web site was showing no availability on one of the dates requested so I called the hotel directly after being put on hold a room was found to be available, the price quoted I felt was expensive and was informed I could log back in and become a One member and save 10% but as their was no availability online I ended up just paying the extra.
Fantastic staff! It was very well kept, had a nice breakfast, comfortable room, and wonderful location. Would recommend to anyone I know heading this way.
If I had known there were renovations going on I wouldn’t have booked here. I have stayed many times in the Glasgow hotel and thought it would be the same standard, however, there was no lounge or bar seating available as the whole thing was covered in plastic. It looked more like a murder scene than a relaxing seating area. The room was very dark and poky compared with the lively bright rooms I have had in Glasgow. Although I reported the broken light bulb on the first evening it wasn’t until the next evening that the bulb was changed. I must emphasise the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The situation was not their fault in any way. I do object to paying full price for just a dingy room . There should have been a warning this hotel was being renovated and the option to pay less for the inconvenience prior to booking.
Great location, very friendly staff. Room was lovely and we had a wonderful stay, even had a free upgrade on our room which was awesome and very kind of the staff to do so as we were in Edinburgh to celebrate our anniversary and my partners birthday! We were even allowed to leave our luggage in a safe place on the day we checked out so we didnt have to drag it all over before our train home. My only complaint would be about the pillows on the bed as they werent the comfiest and we had to ask for new pillows, which the staff kindly helped us with. I would certainltly recomend this hotel to others and possibly use it again ourselves for future trips. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome and giving us a good experience for our stay!
Convenient location, friendly staff.
Ideal location. Really handy for the station, shopping and Festival theatre. Really friendly staff. Clean and modern hotel. Room a little basic considering the cost but comfortable and clean No external noise.
Excellent service, helpful staff, clean room
Staff friendly and the breakfast area stylish. Clean rooms. However found the entrance a bit strange because it felt like a back door, the room furnishings were OK. The problematic bit was the breakfast. A serious let down with someone with a nut allergy. Nothing felt safe so I ended up having a coffee and going out to eat. Really disappointing. I didn't particularly fancy a pot noodle style porridge! Not what I expect for £245!!!
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great for the railway station and tourist attractions. Our room was clean and modern with everything we needed and very quiet overnight. The bed was very firm and nice bed linen. Some disruption due to an upgrade and the dining room was very busy at breakfast.
Hayley was amazing ,she made our stay worth while
Excellent value in the ideal location. Motel One was recommended by a friend and I heartily agree with her very positive assessment of the experience! I’m always reluctant to give all ratings of 10, but these were fully deserved in our opinions.
Great location. I am not sure we knew in advance about improvement works but don't think affected us. Great staff. The water in the Aircon system does make a lot of noise and felt ceiling style didn't help. Bit odd that plug for kettle under desk and that only one side of bed has table.
Perfectly adequate hotel; nothing too special but a great location & friendly and attentive staff.
Clean room and equipped with typical appointments. Close to Waverly train station within walking distance with luggage. complaints: room looked out onto a four story courtyard which was neither attractive nor served any purpose but was lit up during the night like daylight. Sink had no plug to fill up basin and toilet was difficult to flush.
Everything was lovely, but we were not forewarned that there would be building works which marred the wow factor on the bar area. Also the air-conditioning in the room stopped working and whilst we were provided with a fan it was not adequate to cool the room. This meant we had to have the window open onto a very noisy street.
Exelent service
Motel One was able to get us in our room quickly and everyone was very nice. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The view of Edinburgh was fantastic. The breakfast was delicious! Best hotel breakfast ever! Fresh croissants, meats, jams and fruit!
The room was fine, location excellent but the breakfast not worth the money. We missed proper egg and bacon instead of the hard boiled eggs- they were all hard boiled.
There was a little issue at check in when we discovered we had been given the wrong room but staff quickly rectified this and that is why we are still giving full stars The staff are what makes this hotel Pleasant happy and quick to help which is why I always stay here or at the Royal when I visit Edinburgh
The location is perfect.
Excellent location, right at the foot of Old Town, close the train station (we arrived by train from London). The room was super spacious, very comfortable, and clean. The reception staff was very friendly. I highly recommend this hotel if you're planning to spend a few days in Edinburgh.
Great position, hotel was comfortable and had all that was needed. Room was a bit small, but you don’t spend much time there. Didn’t like the plastic coffee cups in bedroom, and one garbage bin in bathroom only, bedside tables too small. Other than these small things overall ambiance was great. Staff friendly and very helpful. Position is perfect for a visit to Edinburgh.
I am writing direct to Erwin Tolentino on the amazing staff Pascela Cameron and AJ while staying Princes St location Edinburgh my 3rd stay at least! At 82 I selected for perfect safe location. My experience was so caring by your young staff for this Canadian Breakfast healthy great view Balmoral Castle. I thanked them with chocolate and have a great photo I will send direct. Great location, clean quiet room. Easy check in and check out. Comfortable bed. Friendly upbeat staff.
Amazing location and incredible staff! The rooms are a bit stuffy and on the small side, but we would definitely stay here again! Room was also really quiet.
Rooms are lovely and much better than the sister hotel in Edinburgh. But the building was so hot, the room I couldn't cool down, the AC didn't do anything and the window being open did nothing. The breakfast area was equally as hot, every morning I had to rush to get out into a cooler climate.
This was by far, the Best Motel One stay we have had at any of the locations to date. Cameron at the front desk was Exceptional!!! Actually, due to her Superior Customer Service, we have rebooked an additonal two nights, at the end of our time in Scotland. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Excellent job Motel One Princes!!
Overall it was a great stay! Our only real complaint was that Expedia led us to believe our breakfast was included but found out when we got there that this was incorrect. I'm not blaming you as it sounds like a miscue on the part of Expedia

Hotel Edinburgh Princes
Being the capital of Scotland, Edinburgh naturally has a long history with royal personages. In our Motel One Edinburgh-Princes we’ve cannily picked up on Scotland's royalty-related motifs, welcoming visitors with illustrious design combining antique candelabras and opulent velvet sofas. From the booths of the second-floor bar, there are majestic views onto the famed Princes Street and Edinburgh's history, while in our One Lounge, you can start the day in imperious fashion with a healthy breakfast, and relax later on in the company of royal portraits.
And the area around this Design Hotel at Waverley Station is well worth exploring, with the National Gallery of Scotland, Carlton Hill and Edinburgh Castle just a short stroll away. If you’re travelling on business, our design hotel is just as handy for Edinburgh International Conference Centre and the airport.
