Vienna on foot: which route links the Belvedere, the Hofburg and Schönbrunn?

For anyone who fancies a post-meal stroll through the Austrian capital after enjoying an authentic Wiener Schnitzel or a slice of Sacher Torte, we’ve got just the thing. Our tour not only keeps you fit, but also offers an interesting overview of Vienna’s countless attractions. Our starting point is the spectacular 18th-century Belvedere Palace and Gardens. Both the exterior façade and the interior rooms allow you to immerse yourself deeply in the Baroque era. But our next stop is every bit as beautiful as the palace. The Vienna State Opera is one of the world’s most famous opera houses, and rightly so. It impresses not only with its performances but also with its stunning architecture. Just a 10-minute walk away is the Vienna Hofburg. The former residence of the Habsburgs is now the official seat of the Austrian Federal President. It houses not only large sections of the National Library but also several museums, such as the Sisi Museum. Speaking of museums: culture vultures will find plenty to enjoy here in the adjacent MuseumsQuartier. On the way to our final stop, Schönbrunn Palace, you’ll pass Vienna City Hall. Not only Schönbrunn Palace itself, but also the palace grounds with their numerous fountains, statues and monuments are definitely worth a visit. Austria’s largest palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its park boasts yet another attraction: the world’s oldest surviving zoo, Schönbrunn Zoo.
