Berlin walking tour: which sights are included on the walking tour?

Berlin: hip, impressive and green! With a total area of 890 square kilometres, Berlin is undeniably a huge city, whose landmarks are usually quite a distance apart – but thanks to the almost entirely flat terrain, you can easily get from one of the main attractions to another. What’s more, on this route you’ll literally benefit from a ‘green wave’, as the city’s largest park, the Großer Tiergarten, makes up the bulk of the route. At our starting point, Museum Island, you can – as the name suggests – spend a whole day simply visiting museums, such as the famous Pergamon Museum with its collection of antiquities. We, however, set off from the majestic Berlin Cathedral and follow the grand boulevard ‘Unter den Linden’ to the Brandenburg Gate, which is immediately adjacent to the Großer Tiergarten. But don’t head straight in; first, take a detour to the Reichstag building, the seat of the German Bundestag in the Neo-Renaissance style, which was once wrapped in fabric by the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. After all, there’s a good chance that once you’ve entered the Tiergarten, you’ll want to stay there straight away. It’s by far the most popular park in Berlin – partly because of its size and diversity, and partly because of the impressive zoo and aquarium on its southern edge. The route there takes you past the Victory Column and the Angel of Peace, one of Germany’s most significant national monuments, which you can even climb! The route culminates at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church – this war ruin, combined with modern elements, is one of Berlin’s landmarks and a memorial to peace. Here, why not enjoy a nightcap on the roof terrace of our neighbouring Motel One Berlin-Upper West, where you’ll also be treated to a spectacular panoramic view of the church and the surrounding city.
