Anyone visiting Berlin almost always has the Hackesche Höfe in Mitte on their must-see list. The historic buildings with their ornate facades were opened in 1906 opposite Hackescher Markt between Rosenthalerstrasse and Sophienstrasse as residential, factory and commercial complexes. Today, the picturesque little backyards are listed and offer a colourful mix of shops, offices, cultural facilities, flats and nightlife options on 27,000 square metres. The district is not only a magnet for tourists. The Berlin scene of young, aspiring artists, craftsmen and owners of small labels also find a suitable setting here to exhibit their product portfolios and hone new developments in small manufactories.

The combination of the historic buildings with their influences of Jugendstil, Art Deco but also industrial elements, as well as the modern, young community that lives and works here, stands for Berlin's rather unique attitude of constantly reinventing itself, not covering the old but rediscovering it. This flair has also found its way into our lobby: Art nouveau elements meet modern furniture, traditional tile patterns are juxtaposed with hip, young art, old materials are reinterpreted and upgraded into interesting design objects in the spirit of the current upcycling scene.
