Fit for a king
Our Hotel Munich Sendlinger Tor
BE WELCOMED LIKE ROYALTY
If that’s not a perfect photo opportunity, we don’t know what is (#selfie): when you step into our hotel, you’ll be welcomed by the king himself. By the way, he was a true local – the castle where he was born, Nymphenburg Palace, is just a short tram ride away from our hotel.
IN THE LAP OF LUXURY
Replete with mirrors, glistening gold, crystal details and sophisticated touches of velvet, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the lounge for a bona fide castle. A fireplace adds a touch of cosy homeliness: why not soak it up on one of the neo-baroque armchairs, crafted by the Italian brand Creazioni?
HALL OF MIRRORS
If you look a little closer at the mirrored bar counter, you’ll discover a sophisticated nod to the blue & white lozenges of the Bavarian flag. Here, perched atop your throne (or rather, bar stool) from Sé London, you can imagine you’re holding court in the great hall at Herrenchiemsee Palace, thanks to the abstract image of it that decorates the wall behind the bar. A touch of modernity offsets the lustre of tradition in the form of ‘Odysée’ lights from Art et Floritude.
BREAKFAST FOR DINNER?
Ludwig II was a night owl, and it’s said that he always ate breakfast at midnight. But don’t worry: at Motel One Munich-Sendlinger Tor, early birds can enjoy breakfast at the normal time (namely, in the morning), tucking into coffee, croissants and all sorts of other delicacies under hand-made green glass lamps from Rothschild & Bickers .
GET DOWN TO WORK
A desk with a view: work doesn’t really feel like work if it’s against the backdrop of Neuschwanstein Castle, to say nothing of the aura given off by the huge ‘Louis 2015’ wooden desk from Studio Kalff, with artistic ceramic legs – and the glow of the antique chandeliers.
WHERE THE PAST MEETS THE PRESENT
Motel One Munich-Sendlinger Tor isn’t just home to large-scale pieces by the designer Roos Kalff, the creative brain behind Studio Kalff: it also showcases smaller, more delicate pieces by her. These include the tealight holders she crafts from vintage glassware, creating something new from something old. They’re beautiful – and beautifully sustainable!
YOUR HOME IN BAVARIA
As King Ludwig once said: ‘We need to create our own paradises, poetic places of retreat...’. We’re not going to lie to you – not all our rooms offer the same idyllic view of the Frauenkirche’s towers. But one thing’s for sure: you’ll definitely feel at home at Motel One, your Bavarian base where you can relax and unwind.
