Aachen: the city that used to be on everyone’s lips! In years gone by, Aachen was the place to be, where countless German kings were crowned and Charlemagne had his residence. But the city – and our Motel One Aachen – is particularly worth a visit in the present day, too.

When you step into our lobby, your eye will be drawn to its regal touches and a veritable king’s ransom in gold details. Its fixtures and fittings are heavily inspired by elements in Aachen Cathedral, turning our Motel One into a little kingdom of its own. Take a look inside!

Our Hotel Aachen

Step into...
...the world of kings and queens. Our reception desk makes sure all our guests receive a golden welcome, in the literal sense of the word. The front mimics the shape of the parapet at the Charlemagne-era Aachen Cathedral, while the wall behind it pays tribute to this sacred building, too, featuring the outline of the cathedral itself. Alongside this, it also bears the various names for Aachen, written in brass and playing on the city’s significant location in the border triangle.
A right royal feast
Everyone knows they can dine like a king on our breakfast. But here, a dazzling array of glittering touches create the perfect atmosphere for it, too: the golden room divider, letting through plenty of light, draws inspiration from the varied decoration on the cathedral and works in harmony with Tom Dixon’s diamond lights to create a heavenly aura. Truly something to be savoured!
An eye for art
If you want to enjoy a very special view indeed, you’d be well-advised to set yourself down on one of the Leya chairs by Freifrau. Why? Because you’ll be able to look straight at Jeffrey Postma’s artwork, which sees Charlemagne slip into our lounge in abstract form. The offset levels intentionally create little ‘mistakes’ that give the image an abstract touch – and make it more interesting, too.
The throne room
What’s one thing a palace simply can’t do without? You’ve got it: the throne. So, get comfy in our Fritz Hansen egg chair and enjoy the view of your kingdom. If that’s not for you, you can take a pew on one of the feudal pieces by Moroso, like the velvet-covered Redondo sofa.
A bar like no other
Our bar is a sight to behold, thanks to its unique golden design. If you haven’t noticed, the wall behind the bar showcases Charlemagne’s monogram, which has been passed down through history. You can see this symbol absolutely everywhere in Aachen. For example, you’ll see it on the floor plaques marking out the route the ‘Kaiser Karl führt durch Aachen’ tour.
A very special highlight...
...in our lounge is the stunning ceiling above the bar. And that’s not just because Lee Broom’s sky-high Crystal Bulbs radiate a pleasant glow. It’s also because the filigree golden hexagons come together to create an octagon – and by extension, a connection to the cathedral! One thing is for sure: the bar is truly fit for a king, even today.
Royal garden
Our grounds might not be palatial in size – but their stunning appearance and cosy feel more than make up for it. It’s the perfect place to relax, drink in hand, once you come back from exploring the city.
The crowning glory
After a long day, it’s time to return to the royal chambers. And even when our guests are asleep, we make sure to treat them like royalty: our regal-inspired art by Jeffrey Postma and our comfortable box-spring beds will help you slip away to the kingdom of dreams.
