The Palace of Culture and Science is not exactly an insider secret: its sheer size alone makes it rather hard to hide. But this emblem of Warsaw, stretching 273 metres into the sky and commissioned in the 1950s by Josef Stalin, is impressive nonetheless. It’s really something to look at – or at least look down from; a viewing platform can be found on the 30th floor.

Boxing matches were held in this market hall back in the 1950s, but it’s now a gourmet’s paradise where you can enjoy a snack at any time of day, or simply pick up regional and international delicacies. If you’re still hungry afterwards, just continue on to Hala Koszyki!

With its blend of concrete, glass and lush vegetation, the University of Warsaw Library numbers among the city’s most fascinating buildings. Its roof is home to one of Europe’s largest rooftop gardens, featuring bridges, a waterfall and panoramic views. It is open from April to October – and entry is free.

The museum showcases optical illusions and modern art in a refreshingly interactive, fascinating way. The exhibition is brimming with surprises, not to mention photo opportunities. So, dive in, touch the exhibits... but don’t get lost in the hall of mirrors!

Once you’re done sightseeing for the day, head to the old town for dinner! At Karmnik, or ‘bird feeder’ in English, you can feast on traditional Polish specialities like pierogi or enjoy international cuisine and cocktails in a modern yet cosy setting.
