Skiing and snowboarding

  • Patscherkofel
Innsbruck’s local mountain! Perched 1,400 metres above the city, the Patscherkofel has hosted several Winter Olympic Games. (Aspiring) professionals will be just as happy here as beginners or freestylers.
  • Nordkette
Some cities have a city park; Innsbruck has a city ski resort. It takes just 20 minutes to get from the city centre to the small ski resort at the top of the Nordkette. Whizzing down the slopes with views over the city and the Brenner Pass – where else can you find that?! Tip: The area is mainly suited to advanced skiers and snowboarders. Lounging in deckchairs in the sunshine – also suitable for beginners!
  • Muttereralm
This family-friendly ski resort offers slopes of all levels of difficulty. Practice slopes for beginners, varied runs, a speed run – and one of Austria’s most beautiful forest runs (the Götzner Abfahrt)!
  • Glungezer
Something for everyone: beginners, advanced skiers, walkers and snowboarders all feel at home in this small ski resort. Highlight: the 15-kilometre-long run down to the valley.
  • Oberperfuss-Rangger Köpfl
Small but lovely: the network of slopes is manageable, yet boasts wonderful views and runs for all ability levels, as well as ski routes and night skiing options.

Tobogganing

Have you polished your runners and checked your brakes? Here’s just a small selection of tobogganing options in and around Innsbruck:

  • Rumer Alm natural toboggan run: A 90-minute climb is rewarded with tobogganing fun from hut to hut.
  • Muttereralm toboggan run: features both an easier family run and a more challenging sports run.
  • Rinner Alm: The climb takes around 1.5 hours and offers beautiful views of the Inn Valley. Fans of night tobogganing can enjoy a run on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 7 pm to 11 pm.
  • Oberperfuss-Rangger Köpfl: You can also tackle the 10-kilometre-long toboggan run during night tobogganing on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
  • Glungezer: The panoramic toboggan run also offers a special tobogganing experience on traditional ‘Klumper’: wooden stools fitted with runners.

Fancy a thrill? Here’s an overview of all the toboggan runs.

Cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiing opportunities for beginners, intermediate skiers and experts, for skating or classic style, set against a fabulous mountain panorama – the trails in Innsbruck are practically on the hotel’s doorstep; here are the three closest ones:

  • Birgitz-Axams: A popular trail starting at the Axams Leisure Centre, 4.5 kilometres long; free to use; suitable for skating and classic-style skiing.
  • Natters: Access to the 7.7-kilometre trail is either via the Natters Sports Centre/Ski Jump or in Neu Götzens; free to use; suitable for both skating and classic styles.
  • Rinn: Unspoilt nature awaits cross-country skiers in Rinn. There are a total of two trails here with sections of varying difficulty; free to use, suitable for both skating and classic styles.
