Does the job
Friendly staff and clean room Unfortunately the shower ran out of hot water after no more than a few minutes, whatever dial was turned, which made for a disappointing experience.
I stayed in January - very cold weather. Heating not working in room so I was moved to a new room. The second room had a cold shower only. No hot water. Hence score 3/10 Beautiful entrance and lounge area but the rooms are dreadful.
So convenient and always a great welcome! Clean. Great prices.
There was no hot water in the morning. When I complained the reception acted as if I shouldn’t have really expected it … didn’t even apologise. Just said .. “are you sure?’ As if I was imagining it … all my colleagues had the same problem… Also, when you check in they say .. in order to support out sustainable goals we won’t offer you a cleaning service .. is that ok ? What they should say is .. ‘ in order to save ourselves money in staff costs we don’t want to clean your room unless you specifically ask us too. You are a nice budget hotel … don’t hide behind sustainability 😂😂
We had a good stay. The room was very warm even with the air con on, but that's our only criticism.
This was our third stay at Motel One in Newcastle. Once again it didn’t disappoint and we enjoyed the stylish public areas and bedroom. Staff were friendly and efficient. The location is very central to everything in the city and public transport is on the doorstep too. My only gripe is the provision of paper cups and no teaspoons in the bedroom! The continental breakfast was very nice however. Would stay again.
The hotel was located very central. The rooms are small, but acceptable. The problem is that I had no hot water one morning, due to a technical problem, and had to take a cold shower. I informed the hotel and then changed me to a new room, but did not offer any discount, voucher, or any sign of kindness given the situation... very disappointing.
Good service, but the narrative about cost-saving on room cleanliness for the purposes of Net Zero is like thinly-disguised greenwashing, which is not a good look.
heating was not working in room had to move room rooms are clean and bathrooms modern good for business stay Limited food options available at bar outside of breakfast
Great location, nice modern design, decent breakfast, good spaces for socialising.
Very small room but had everything we needed. Comfortable bed. Hotel was in a great location and staff we very friendly and helpful.
Excellent central location, comfortable and clean room, very friendly and helpful reception and bar staff.
Everything in the hotel was excellent. Clean, quiet and comfortable room. Very friendly and helpful Reception staff. Public areas of the hotel very welcoming and well presented. Sadly, dynamic pricing by Motel One meant I paid extra for each of the four rooms I’d booked than someone who booked at a different time. Perhaps a benefit to the who sign up to the membership scheme would be to receive the cheapest on the day price offered by Motel One?
Really loverly motel one is loverly inside seating area and bar is fabulous with loverly diffrent types of seats so comfy staff and brilliant really nice maje you feel very welcome rooms are loverly comfy beds conternetal breakfast looked beautiful loverly choices would recommend it to enyone who staying in Newcastle to say at motel one 😀
Friendly staff and comfortable rooms; if a little on the small side. The noise outside form neighbouring properties at 5am was annoying - as was the hotel key card resetting itself 2 our of the 4 days I stayed for.
Good points: Nice looking hotel, Great bar and lounge area, friendly and kind personal Bad points: Shower temperature has poor control (either too hot or too cold) - my colleague in a different room faced the same issue. Bath room floor was sticky
Brilliant location in the centre of Newcastle. Small but functional room with nice shower. Stylish and spacious bar and lounge area. Would stay again.
Very pleasant reception and exceptionally clean rooms. Stayed there for only two days but I can imagine the service would remain exquisite even for longer stays.
The night staff where rude and un-help full, which unfortunately spoilt our stay, we've used this hotel before, and we regularly use the Edinburgh one and we haven't experience this before. Our card would work to let us back into the hotel after hours and all three of the night staff, just stood and watched us struggle, they continue to chat and had a little laugh at our expense. Not ideal.
Have stayed with Motel One several times now, staff are always welcoming, perfect location and the hotel is clean. Staff were exceptionally helpful on this visit as we were stranded in Newcastle due to storm Eowyn, booked an extra night with no problems. Only couple of issues were when we booked on-line we requested no cleaning as prompted, however the room was cleaned which is a waste of resources. Also bar staff in the evening could be trained a little more, service was slow and mistakes were being made.
Very clean, staff very friendly.. great location.. will stop again
No hot water at 6pm. No hot water at 6:45 am. Had 2 cold showers.
Excellent but non imposing service. Lovely decor. Clean facilities. Hassle free check in and check out. Excellent central location. Excellent value for money.
I love Motel One as its so central , the staff àre fabulous, the bedding and bed are great, and the price is good !
Lovely Hotel, friendly helpful staff. My name only disappointment was you use paper cups and stirrers in the bedroom, would prefer mug and teaspoon.
I had to return to the reception desk 3 times because the key card I was given didn't work, each time carrying all my luggage back down again after a very long day of travelling. It was resolved on the 3rd occasion after I ended back at reception with my bags in tow in tears. The downstairs reception and bar area is deceiving, it looks very upmarket and classy and the photos of the rooms on the website looked good as well, but once you get in your room it is basic and not much better than a travelodge. The bathroom smelt of dirty drains and I later found that the sink was blocked, the shower wash hadn't been refilled so I couldn't use that. The room hadn't been vacuumed as there were still bits of fluff and debris all over the floor. I had already asked on return no 1 for a room move away from the lift and was told the hotel was fully booked so it was pointless for me to return for a 4th time to reception to complain again about the room, and I was too tired to care at this point. Breakfast is continental only. I booked via my works booking system and it was not made clear there. So unfortunately unless you want a boiled egg that's the only hot food you're going to get for breakfast. The buffet food area is also the corridor between the lifts and the main doors so when I returned with my bags to leave, I had to negotiate people and their breakfast plates and hot drinks to just get past. All in all very disappointing and I wouldn't stay again.
Attractive public spaces but bedroom was very small and disappointing. Easy chair was cheap and uncomfortable. There were no drinking glasses. Coffee cups were cheap cardboard. THere was bowhere to put a suitcase ecept on the floor beside the door. There were no hooks to hang a coat. Bathroom was very small and poky. It all felt more show than substance.
Comfortable bed and clean room. The shower was not cold but would have preferred it warmer but the temperature dial didn’t work. The breakfast is very nice with plenty of options.
Nice and cosy room. Beautiful bathroom, love the shower gel! Staff are friendly. Personal touch with a note signed by the housekeeper, Jake. The only only little thing is the door - quite tricky to close. Heavy door which is great for noisy avoidance. Overall, would stay again.
Bed was really comfy, decor in room seemed a bit dated and choice at breakfast felt limited
Room was immaculately clean, bed comfortable and bathroom spotless. My only reservations were that the room was too hot and potential guests with disabilities/mobility problems might find the hotel difficult to access due to its location.
Have stayed in Motel1 on a number of occasions when visiting Newcastle, and again was not disappointed
I stayed in room 536 as I did the previous Wednesday. On both occasions I could not shower as the hot water was not coming through. On Thursday a maintenance man checked the shower and when I got back to the room the water was hot but I had a train to catch so could not use it. On Saturday I ran the water three separate times and at no time did I get hot water. The staff agreed to a room change which we did late afternoon when we returned to the hotel
Really impressed with Motel One. Better than expected. Reception staff were first class, explained everything clearly and succinctly and were very welcoming. Rooms were very clean and bed was extremely comfortable. Location wise, obviously having the Bigg Market on the doorstep isn't ideal on a Friday or Saturday night, but room was quiet. I'd stay here again because value for money is outstanding.
Good price, comfortable room, friendly staff.
Comfortable clean, bed was amazing. Staff very friendly and helpful great shower
I travel regularly and always chose Motel One in Newcastle for the value for money. Central location, friendly staff at check in, comfortable serviced rooms and clean bathrooms. It has a lovely welcoming atmosphere.
Excellent staff and rooms....
Fantastic hotel!!! Couldn’t recommend it more!! Beautiful inside and superb location and great price for where it’s located so close to everything
Great stay. Staff were efficient , friendly and helpful. Comfortable, clean room. This hotel is in a great location to enjoy a city break.
Absolutely brilliant. The rooms were clean. Staff were friendly. I really enjoyed my stay
Great location, reception area and bar are really nice. Rooms just basic and not very big. Just be aware the breakfast is only continental but is very expensive
Great location and good value for money.
Absolute gem of a place. Close to the train station and all local amenities. Room was more than adequate for our one night stay. Spotlessly clean. Comfy bed. Check in was great and all our questions were answered about how to get about whilst in newcastle Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Great location, vibe and value for money
Great stay in a beautiful, clean, comfortable hotel, it’s in a great location and all of the staff were very helpful
Always a pleasure to stay at Motel One Newcastle. Great location, friendly staff and comfortable rooms.
Room was ok and clean, corner seat had a big stain on it. Room next to lift and noisy. Queen bed was two singles pushed together with a gap in the middle.
My cousins and I have stayed 3 times at the motel and we can’t praise it enough. The beds are comfortable and the rooms and bathroom are spotlessly clean and at this time lovely and warm. The staff are always so welcoming and have lots of good advise on days out in the area and can’t do enough for you. I would never stay anywhere else when in the area.

Full of natural charm
Our centrally-located Motel One Newcastle is warmed by the charm of raw brickwork, in the form of a genuine brick façade with an industrial style harking back to the history of this working-class city. The interior design takes as its motif the bridges over the Tyne, and the stylish faux-industrial bar pays homage to the achievements of Robert Stephenson, who designed the Rocket steam locomotive. Real leather furniture by Baxter and fine rugs by Jan Kath complement the look. Elegant details such as chairs by Arketipo with distinctive steel frames, and mirrored shelving stocked with carafes of whisky add touches of charm.
And of course, it is no accident that the striped wallpaper at reception is in Newcastle United colours. Even the location in the city’s historic centre suits the industrial-modern style of our affordable Design Hotel. Sights such as the Theatre Royal, Grey’s Monument and Newcastle Town Hall are close at hand, the hotel is handy for the central station, and the airport is easily accessible.
Book your room in our Design Hotel and experience the rich contrasts between “old” industrial and “new” modern design.
