Enjoyed our stay at Motel One Basel - offers an excellent location for exploring the city; has friendly and helpful staff, with very clean and comfortable rooms.
Very friendly and helpful welcome when we arrived and a very spacious room that was kept spotlessly clean. The reception/bar area is attractively designed. We had cocktails that were well made and delicious. Excellent location. We would definitely stay here again.
Overall, the experience was excellent. The staff was friendly, and the rooms were clean. If I had to mention one downside, it would be the breakfast area, which was not very convenient, though the staff made an effort to make us feel comfortable. I will definitely choose this place again for my next visit to Basel.
Absolutely fabulous, I needed a quiet place to work and have a good sleep. I knew that Motel one Basel would be the right place for me.
Excellent stay. We booked the balcony room and it was just perfect with the most calming view over the square just outside the hotel. The hotel location is perfect for walking around the old town and just a 15 minute walk over the bridge to the other side of Basel. Breakfast exceeded expectations and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The staff remembered your names and this made our stay very personable.
Room services were great. Reception provided all type of help.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Motel One. It is my go-to hotel when I am in Europe. Clean, excellent staff, and delicious breakfasts.
Very good, as usual. As requested, I was given a quiet room high up at the back of the hotel, and slept well.
We had a lovely couple of nights in Basel. The room, though not large, was good, a very comfortable bed and excellent shower. All the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and the location was perfect, situated in the old town, just a short walk to the Rhine river and very close to tram stops, tourist office and restaurants. Our only niggle was that the hairdryer kept cutting out.
Location, rooms, beds, staff, design, almost everything is perfect. The only thing missing is a fridge in the room.

Amazing stay! I usually stay in Sheraton, Hilton, Marriot, etc. But those are beyond expensive for Basel. This was comparable to a Courtyard Marriot. The amenities in room are limited (no coffee, fridge), but it was quiet, clean, the mattresses were firm, good water pressure and the hotel breakfast / bar area and staff made up for it! And to be honest - Marriot and others have cut back on room amenities as well!
Excellent and friendly service, clean and stylish rooms as expected. Always feeling very comfortable. As it´s in den heart of Basel, you can get anywhere in no time.

I arrived at around 9 PM and there was no one at the reception. I had to ask twice at the bar to call someone.

A Perfect Stay in Basel – Thanks to Motel One My recent stay at Motel One Basel was fantastic from start to finish. The hotel is perfectly located — right in the heart of the city, making it easy to explore Basel’s old town, museums, and cultural spots all on foot. But what really made the experience stand out was the exceptional service, especially from Julian, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was seamless and welcoming. One unexpected highlight was just how close the hotel is to the Rhein — within minutes, I could be swimming or relaxing along the banks with locals. If you're visiting in summer, this proximity to the water is a huge bonus. All in all, Motel One offers comfort, design, and service at a great value, with the added charm of Swiss hospitality. I’ll definitely be back!

Overall, everything at Motel One Basel was great, as usual. The staff, the rooms, and the breakfast are all very reliable and make the stay very enjoyable. One thing I did not enjoy was that although our room from 2-5 June was great , it had an interior view, but this was ok because the windows opened. However, we returned for one night on 9 June, and were given a room in which the r windows did not open, and were not told this upon check in. I would have appreciated an open window or perhaps a free pass for breakfast because of this.

Excellent location in the heart of Basel. Room was very nice and also clean and comfortable bed.. My only disappointment was not being able to get a cup of coffee before 8 AM.
Mediocre is the best way to describe this property. Some staff a mildly friendly, others indifferent. The breakfast service is the worst feature. It is crowded and uncomfortable. Chairs and tables meant for casual conversation are used for eating a meal. How did this setup ever meet Motel One requirements? Awful, soap with far too strong a scent. The view out the window of the room (#105) was depressing.
Excellent location: walking distance to the SBB station, city center, old town; very good breakfast; comfortable beds (as always in MotelOne); very friendly and helpful staff; as always super clean. When again in Basel, I'll choose MotelOne.

A nice hotel in the middle of the city. Clean and quiet. Good breakfast.
Reception kindly allowed us to check in early when we arrived from the airport. The staff was unfailingly kind and helpful in answering my questions and helping me navigate transportation.
I had two things which made my stay uncomfortable, even though the hotel itself was good: -cushion: 2 huge cushions that are not suitable to sleep on (at least one should have been flatter) -too cold: in my room it was extremely cold even though I put the air conditioner to 25 celsius. The heating system was probably shut down completely. That's why it was not really comfortable to stay in the room.

Very well located. Fantastic to get this public transport card for free, I loved it. Daniel is great. Unfortunately, it was really really hot in the room and there was no air coming from the AC. I had to open the window but it was too noisy. Bad night sleep.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Nice, clean room. I do think the room could use more "surfaces" where guests can put things like makeup bags etc.
Centrally located in Basel so a bit noisier that some other properties. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, etc. Conveniently located on the tram line with rapid access to everywhere including the airport.
There was no option to open the window because they were within a New Yorker showroom. The AC was not working, and in a super small room, it was almost impossible to get any fresh air circulating. Some guests were opening the door to the hallway, which makes the Motel a youth hostel.
Staff were fantastic. Very friendly. Special mention of David on the night shift. Rooms were too stuffy. Unable to open a window for any fresh air.

top location, best position in town
I had paid for my room in advance. I didn't arrive until the night. Upon arrival, it turned out that my room had been canceled anyway and they did not immediately find confirmation of my payment. Fortunately, there was another room available and the problem could be solved.
Nice and peaceful, well located, very safe. I wish the room had a mini fridge and kettle/microwave.

As soon as you arrive at the reception, a collage of exhibition posters from the nearby Kunsthalle tips visitors off that the theme of our Motel One Basel is definitely ART. Illuminated picture frames stylishly showcase the bottles behind the bar, while breakfast can be savoured in an authentically decorated atelier area with Overdyed Chairs by Diesel for Moroso and decorated by brushes, paint tubes, splashes of colour and “Tu-be” chandeliers by Ingo Maurer. The focal point of this design is the “Soundscape” installation by local artist Adrian Falkner, bringing visual expression to the acoustic ambiance and reproducing the life and chatter from our lobby.
