It's always greener... on this side

Berlin: hip, unique and surprisingly green! With its 890 square kilometres of total area, Berlin is undeniably a giant city whose landmarks are also usually a good distance apart - but thanks to the almost completely flat terrain, you can easily move back and forth between the most important ones. Moreover, on this route you literally benefit from a "green wave", as the city's largest park, the Großer Tiergarten, makes up the main part of the route.

At our starting point, the Museum Island, you could - as the name suggests - also spend a whole day just visiting museums, like the famous Pergamon Museum with its collection of antiquities. But we start at the majestic Berlin Cathedral and follow the boulevard "Unter den Linden" to the Brandenburg Gate, which is also immediately adjacent to the Great Tiergarten. But don't go in yet, first make a detour to the Reichstag building, the seat of the German Bundestag in neo-Renaissance style, which was once wrapped in fabric by the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

Because chances are, once you've entered the Tiergarten, you'll want to stay there. It is by far the most popular park in Berlin - partly because of its size and versatility, and partly because of the impressive zoo and aquarium on its southern edge. The route takes you past the Victory Column with the Angel of Peace, one of Germany's most important national monuments, which you can also climb!

As a crowning finale to the route, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church awaits you - the wartime ruin combined with modern elements is one of Berlin's landmarks and a memorial to peace. Finally, a nightcap on the roof terrace of our neighbouring Motel One Berlin-Upper West is basically a "must" here, offering you a spectacular panoramic view of the church and the surrounding Berlin.
