The art at the Motel One Vienna-Westbahnhof was designed by Austrian artist and filmmaker Thomas Draschan. He created fantastic sceneries and impossible parallel universes for our lounge and rooms – all referencing Vienna in some way, of course. You can find more information in our interview and art flyer.
Our Motel One Vienna-Westbahnhof is quintessentially influenced by the atmosphere of the nearby Museumsquartier (museum district), and in particular the mumok, the museum of modern art. Lively colours and unusual design are themes in our hotel down to the tiniest detail. At the reception, two brightly coloured ‘Enzis’, unique benches that can also be found in the outdoor area of the Museumsquartier, invite you to relax. Contemporary and original, the works of Vienna-based artist Thomas Draschan in the reception, breakfast area, bar and hotel rooms contribute to the exclusive atmosphere. His wall pieces and light collages radiate the typical Vienna lifestyle and play with scenes from Westbahnhof, clichés and absurdities – of course combined with a large portion of Viennese sarcasm.
This design hotel is close to Mariahilfer Strasse, a popular shopping street leading from the city centre toward the Schönbrunn Palace. You can reach other central sights such as the Hofburg, the Stephansdom and the Staatsoper just as quickly. Having Vienna Westbahnhof on the doorstep of the hotel enables easy excursions into the surrounding Austrian countryside, making Motel One an ideal base for your city break in Vienna. Have we sparked your wanderlust? We agree with a quote from the poet Novalis, which you will also find incorporated in the artistic room collages: ‘Wir träumen von Reisen durch das Weltall: ist denn das Weltall nicht in uns?’ (We dream of journeys through the cosmos — Is the cosmos not then in us?) and suggest that you don’t necessarily have to travel into space: first try our attractively priced hotel in Vienna!
