Is it Easter again or is that the Dürer hare hopping? Clearly the latter, after all, we are in the Dürer city of Nuremberg. The master of copperplate engraving, woodcut and painting was born here in 1471. Through his many studies of man, animals and the universe, he already made a name for himself at that time, and in many ways he was already far ahead of his time.

From our hotel, you are only a short walk away from the Albrecht Dürer House, where many of his original works can be admired. We can't offer you these here - instead, we have made the old master our model for our interior design. Feel inspired - by the old genius and our new design.

... and marvel at the first artistic highlight right at the reception: Nuremberg-born Julian Vogel has designed a wall area of almost 12 metres combining typical Nuremberg elements such as postcodes, city maps & Co. with well-known Dürer motifs - first and foremost his "Young Hare" - in a sort of street-art adaptation.

Dürer Details

In the lounge, strutted wall shelves are reminiscent of the half-timbered constructions of Nuremberg's city centre. Dürer's birthplace is one of the few undestroyed examples of this type of construction. Attentive viewers will recognise excerpts from Dürer's many nature studies, in which he devoted himself to human anatomy, flora and fauna, printed on the individual bags of the Ay illuminate Baglamp.

Between the lines

In addition to his work on natural motifs, Dürer also devoted himself to studies of lettering. Some examples are engraved in the glass panes of the room dividers. There is also an allusion to the hotel's central location in the direct vicinity of the main railway station: The benches are not only coincidentally reminiscent of the train compartments of yesteryear.

What must not be missing from the Dürer design theme? Copper! He was, after all, a master of copperplate engraving in his time. So you'll find larger and smaller shimmering elements throughout the interior, such as the reception desk or the modern Tom Dixon lamps above the workbench.

The only way is up!

On the 14th floor, the Cloud One Bar awaits your visit. Another Dürer detail is visible on the back wall of the bar: Behind the copper city silhouette twinkles the star map he drew. In 1515 he created the first celestial map of its kind. But even those completely uninterested in astronomy will find their trip to the stars worthwhile thanks to heavenly drink creations.

Where there's a hare there's a way

Just like at the reception, a hare crosses your path in the bar. THE "Young Hare" from 1502 is probably Dürer's best-known nature study. What makes it special is the detail and lifelike quality with which he captured his motifs. In oversized picture frames, the shy animal can be viewed in all its details at perfect leisure.

After an extensive inspection of the inner values of our bar, it is also worth taking a look outside. Because from up here you have a fantastic view over Nuremberg. Fittingly, sitting on the velvet "Paradise Bird" armchairs by Wittmann feels like relaxing on cloud nine.

From the reception - up to the rooms: Julian Vogel's art runs through our Motel One from top to bottom. More of his creative city references can be found above the beds. The opening of the first German railway route running through Nuremberg in 1835 or the year Nuremberg was founded in 1050 are illustrated as well as the Kaiserburg, Schöner Brunnen, Dürer's house and... the hare, of course.
