Motel One

Manchester is turning over a new leaf: Not only with our third Motel One directly at St. Peter's Square. In general, the former grey industrial city is now a thriving city with many places of art and culture. The number of historic libraries in Manchester alone is impressive - and worth seeing!
Opposite our Motel One, for example, is the Central Library with its domed building, and the John Rylands Library or Chetham's Library are not far away. And so, dear reader, the theme of this design novel is set. Please turn the page, we will take you to your own little private library - very British, of course!

Chapter 1: Winged Words

Once upon a time there was... a small, fine reception, in which specially designed flying books radiate the right flair as soon as you enter. On the back wall, the installation of antique books and portraits of famous authors such as Jane Austen, Oscar Wilde or even good old Shakespeare immediately sets the mood for a textbook example of fine design.

Chapter 2: Between the lines

Our story line continues in the lounge: our in-house library, so to speak. There, well-stocked bookshelves made of old wood are waiting to be browsed and Moroso armchairs with typical English Chesterfield quilting invite you to make yourself comfortable with a work or two.

Chapter 3: Kept in check

The special fabrics used to cover the nostalgic hanging shades that bring you enlightenment from above were hand-selected and are - of course -locally made. So, in the truest sense of the word, you can feel wrapped up here in distinguished, local-coloured cosiness.

Chapter 4: Library Libations

In real libraries you sometimes have to sit on dry land - but not with us. Just a little further and you're already in the middle of it, in the bar, the library... both! The architecture of Manchester's libraries is echoed with expansive round arches and wooden panelling, while mirrored elements add depth to the space. Here you can lose yourself in literary discussions under the hanging lamps by Rothschild & Bickers or get tips from the bar staff for your next day in Manchester!

Chapter 5: Flowery Arrangement

Complete with flowered wallpaper, wing chairs and library ladder, an English country house opens up on the other side of the bar. But only at first glance: The wall ingeniously hides our breakfast buffet and the oversized "Mezza Luna 2" lights see to it that the ambience here feels anything but dusty.

Chapter 6: Steep

It's Tea o'Cock - and there's no better place for it than in our cosy corner on the quilted wall bench under the "Birds & Butterfly" lamps by Servomuto, which exude their very own unique charm. In the adjoining glass showcases, antique tea services also subtly allude to the fact that the local national drink can of course also be tasted here.

Chapter 7: Please be seated

Looking for a quiet spot? The room divider that separates this cosy corner from the lounge, with its wooden door and window elements in various formats and colours, is reminiscent of the colourful mixed fronts of street pubs and shops in Manchester. Behind them, comfortable chairs by Freifrau, covered with special fabrics by Johnstons of Elgin, and a Wall & Decò wallpaper with historic-looking patterns create a special kind of workbench ambience.

Chapter 8: Bedtime Stories

After a long day... just relax? Well, then off to bed: although not every room has a view of the impressive dome of the Manchester Library, you're guaranteed to drift off into a wonderful dream world in record time in our cosy box spring beds. And for reading material, our One Design is at the ready. Happy end!
