Specially good location and a friendly staff.

23.06.2016

Comfortable, clean, stylish & friendly. Highly recommended Thank you

23.06.2016

Location was perfect. Early check-in at 9am was wonderful for me. Only disappointed thing was there was no refrigerator in a room.

23.06.2016

A great hotel. Very well located, good facilities and very welcoming.

23.06.2016

Comfortable, clean room #605. Some outside noise (room faced close). Good location near train station, but 5 minute uphill walk to Royal Mile. Inadequate electrical outlets - we could only find one and in a odd location not next to the desk or in bathroom and therefore inconvenient for charging electronics or using hair drier. Continental breakfast expensive so we used nearby restaurants.

22.06.2016

Excellent location, it enabled us to get to and from the airport with minimum fuss. Clean, efficient and comfortable. What would have been better would be a light at the wardrobe area and more power outlets.

22.06.2016

Very nice and well-appointed rooms. Front desk staff were extremely polite and helpful. Housekeeping was excellent. Most convenient location.

22.06.2016

Wifi would disconnect randomly

22.06.2016

very pleasant atmosphere friendly and helpful staff

22.06.2016

This low budget hotel has the most pleasant, friendly, helpful and accommodating staff I have encountered even in 4 and 5 star hotels! The breakfast was excellent, the location superb, the room was comfortable and clean. I'd recommend this hotel.

21.06.2016

Staff extremely welcoming, friendly and efficient, location superb, room has everything you need including a very comfortable and cosy bed and great bedside lighting.

You listen! I wrote comments on our reservation and I was greeted with a happy anniversary wish and a lovely room. Thank you.

This is our 2nd stay at this motel one . Our first visit October 2015 we had a lovely room on floor 5 but no view ,over looked a public stairway. So room a dark , however lovely stay . This time 18/6/16 we decided to up grade to room with a view on floor 7 We were given room 711 , yes we had a lovely view , bright and sunny room , however this room was very small for a double room , bathroom smaller than previous room , very little space to walk around the bed from one side of room to another , we had to duck to one side when passing due to slope in walls/ceiling no good for anyone over 5ft 10 ! .we were only booked for one night , but had this been longer We would've needed more space . As it would only be a matter of time before hitting head off the slopping walls, I know this is an old quirky building & rooms different sizes and shapes , Can I just ask why ? is there a kettle but all the sockets are high up on wall . Kettle had to be perched on a stool. On saying this , we would still stay in motel one again , def ask for floor 7 for the views but not room 711 . The location is excellent , ideal for princess street if you like to shop or the old town , castle , Royal Mile/ grassmarket area . Staff were friendly . We didn't eat in, so many lovely cafes to have breakfast elsewhere . So , yes would stay again .

A very clean and friendly hotel.

21.06.2016

the facilities were very good, clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and knowledgable.

21.06.2016

Great staff, comfy bed, clean and great location. Limited privacy in the room which overlooked a busy side road (no net curtains or blinds), windows in bathroom was broken and the shower head was faulty as drenched the ceiling when on. Have stayed motel one before great hotel and good value. The above appear to be snagging issues although need sorting cheers

Great location. Clean quiet room. Staff very helpful and check-in and out really quick. Tv in a strange position on wall, pity it wasn't on a movable arm.

20.06.2016

Impersonal and coldly uninviting reception with absurd video-fire. Three staff behind desk doing a lot of the I'm-on-the-phone-I'm-on-the-computer-I-must-be-being-efficient stuff which is SO aggravating for the weary traveller. When one of the impersonal staff found time to attend to me and I checked in, she gave me my key and told me to take the lofty to the fourth floor. When I couldn't find my room and returned to reception - with all my heavy luggage - I was told that I needed to go to the fifth floor and follow signs. No apology was given for the initial misdirection. An unsought REASON for the problem wads that "this is a historic building in a UNESCO heritage site"> This, if true, is NOT MY PROBLEM! I did not decide to site my hotel in this building - your company did. It is up toy YOU to resolve issues, not to use the old building as an excuse for poor service or facilities. I took there lift again - this time to the fifth floor and traipse up and down fire-escape-like steps and corridors and across a bridge to find a VERY small and peculiar-shaped room, its eccentric shape (not a problem in itself) not reflected in the corporate design. When, later that night, I went to bed, I could find no way of turning out the reading lights either side of the bed, which were switched on. After much searching I was reduced in the end to removing the bulbs. As there is no phone to reception in the room (whoever not?) there only other option would have been to get dressed again, and hike back across the bridge and up and down those steps and corridors toy the uninterested reception staff to inform them of the problem. This I was not prepared to do. When I checked out and was asked the inevitable question - did you enjoy your stay? - I said I wasn't impressed by being placed in such a distant and inaccessible room, and pointed out that nothing had been said about the problems of accessibility when I booked: the answer wads the same (the hotel is in an old building etc etc - clearly a taught response). I asked what would have happened if I had had mobility impairment, but the question clearly bored the receptionist. I also mentioned the lights which I had not been able to switch off - UNBELIEVABLY I was presented with a laminated sheet of paper with pictured of the lights with an arrow to show where the tiny switches were, and told |"you see - they CAN be switched off". When I asked why she had the laminated sheet behind the desdk, she said it was because they often had this problem.I asked, in that case, why there were not notices in the rooms and was told that they were "working on it". What work needs to be done to produce notices for the affected rooms? And what hotel would come up with this solution - a visual aid kept behind there reception desk five floors and endless stairs and lifts away from the problem - rather than change the stylish (in a corporate way) but ridiculously over-engineered and inefficient lights, or put a notice in the rooms? The answer to that question is "A hotel which does not see its product from the perspective of its customers", and this is not a hotel for me. I travel a great deal and use a great many hotels of all types: on this occasion, as my trip was for a charity, I elected for a budget hotel. I generally quite enjoy budget hotels - I had a very pleasant stay in Newcastle Travel Lodge the night before my stay in Edinburgh Motel One. The service there was informal but respectful and EFFICIENT. The product was predictable and good - a tried and tested formula. My stay at Motel One cost there charity very nearly twice what Travel |Lodge had charged (£89 against £46). The product however was noticeably inferior. ity seemed to me that Motel One Edinburgh had been set up to appeal to (and overcharge) the foreign tourists who made up there bulk of the clientele during my short visit: this made for an uncomfortable atmosphere and ultimately an unpleasant experience.

Great staff, clean comfortable room, central location. I would, and have since recommended to friends and family to use this hotel when visiting Edinburgh.

20.06.2016

The service was wonderful and responsive to my requests. The breakfast was excellent...especially the freshly baked pain au chocolat. The room was very comfortable, though I would have liked to have the hair dryer closer to a mirror!

20.06.2016

Great room, friendly staff, good breakfast

19.06.2016

Location is great, room very comfortable, reception and bar area very attractive and staff friendly and helpful. the only improvement we could think of regards breakfast. This is slightly expensive at £9.50 for a continental breakfast; actually we really just wanted coffee, fruit juice and a croissant or similar, so it would have been great to have a cheaper 'mini-breakfast' option.

19.06.2016

Overall very comfortable and nice view. Electric plugs too high and nothing to rest the kettle on under the plugs to make tea or charge a phone.

19.06.2016

Overall very impressive for its price and location. Efficient use of space, did not feel constrained. I liked the bathroom a lot, but could you consider adding some hand/ body moisturizer or lotion in the products? Thanks.

19.06.2016

Best location, low price, switched us to a larger room with opening windows due to original room being way to warm. Replaced one of my converters due to burn out, you use a higher voltage then rest of europe we have been to. beautiful rooms, great sitting areas and bar. Drinks and food was excellent as well as staff. Will highly recommend your hotel. Great visit.

18.06.2016

The room was cool even after turning up the heat.

Was really looking forward to my stay here. Stay in Edinburgh at least every 4-6 weeks and have tried pretty much every hotel except this one! (Ranging from the luxury to the budget). Have previously stayed at motel one princes street so was expecting this to be similar. Have to say all the reception staff were so helpful, friendly and very efficient. Had email correspondence prior to staying and was very impressed with all reception staff concerned. Ok so my booking was for a 'classic room', there was a cheaper 'basic' room available the description being 'has skylight window or courtyard view onto another building'. On arrival into my 'classic room' room 543 I was less than impressed, while a view isn't massively important to me, my 'view' was across an alleyway, so the facing building was only a couple of metres away making the room very very dark, dingy and 'cell like'. Wished then I'd booked the cheaper basic room as a skylight or courtyard view would be far superior to what I had! (Or had I been placed in a basic room and charged for classic, makes me wonder) The room itself was clean and just about had everything we needed, bed was a good size and I liked the bathroom however the room was just way too small and claustrophobic, I've never stayed in a more depressing room ever (& we go away most weekends so that is some statement). There was literally nowhere to put the two tiny cases we had with us, awkward to sit and use the mirror for hair and makeup, awkward to get to the tea station right by the bed. All just awkward, unworkable, uncomfortable and claustrophobic. Felt glad that we were only in Edinburgh for one night for a flying visit as I couple not have stayed any longer in that awful room. Vowed never to return and was not happy to have paid £104, comparable nearby travelodge, premier inn etc are all superior (even if older / worn buildings). However the greatest kick in the teeth came the following morning at checkout. We were wandering through the long corridors to the lift and noticed a couple of bedroom doors open for housekeeping, wow these rooms were amazing, absolutely huge (our room would've fitted 4 times into these ones), spacious, bright and everything I would've wished for for my stay (and worthy of the £104 room fee). What do u have to do to get one of these rooms?? Probably occupied by people who had paid far less than me is the biggest insult!! Sorry, sadly won't be staying again despite the great location and lovely staff as could not risk another night in a 'cell' like we were allocated. Much much better available. Shame as could've been so different.

18.06.2016

the room is nice but stuffy even fan has been switched on coz no window can be opened for my room, understand the air conditioner is restricted for the certain degree, however the corridor is much comfortable so I has been opened my room door when I got up. Staff are very helpful & charming, really have a good time in Edinburg

18.06.2016

The room was hot and not air conditioned. They offered us fans; however, the room was still uncomfortable at times. Other than the heat, the staff, hotel, location, was very nice.

18.06.2016

Hotel were situated is very good . Staff helpful and friendly. Rooms clean and very good standard . Good value.

17.06.2016

Almost perfect overnight stay great location clean & comfortable bed & added bonus of a hairdryer that actually worked! Didn't find much in the way of fresh fruit at breakfast but all in all very happy

17.06.2016

Clean, modern and excellent location. Uncomfortable bed, lack of toiletries, storage for clothes and plug sockets

17.06.2016

I had to go out for something to eat as the choice is very limited and as I was late checking in I didn;t really want to have to do this

16.06.2016

The first room was very uncomfortable due to the cooling system not working, I complained but all I was offered was another fan. It was obvious this room was an issue before it was let to me but the staff did not tell me that when I checked in. In my opinion this room should not have been available to let until the issue with the cooling system had been resolved.

16.06.2016

Everything very good except dangerously slippy floor in shower!

16.06.2016

Great location .... Nice hotel although we got a room with little view which was disappointing.... Super friendly service both at check in and at breakfast. Query 1- why are the plugs half way up the wall? Trying to charge my mobile phone - tricky!

16.06.2016

Long trek through corriders to a small room on the ground floor with window at pavement level. Therefore could not open window or curtains and did not feel particularly safe. When I spoke to the reception staff and said as a single female did not think this room was appropriate for me staff were unsympathetic and surprised. Bedside lights do not switch off unless you take the key card our - therefore could not sleep properly.

15.06.2016

Another great stay at Motel One. Huge thanks to Claudia on Reception too, who arranged a hot shower for me early in the morning when I arrived in Edinburgh on the sleeper train, with a full day's work ahead and no showers were available at the station. Thank you!

15.06.2016

Lovely clean hotel in the perfect location to explore Edinburgh. Staff very helpful and polite. Would totally recommend, and we're already planning our next stay!

15.06.2016

Great cool hotel in the middle of everything fun in Edinburgh. Loved everything. Hotel had great style ! Loved the bar and Windows to view the city. Staff was very helpful.

15.06.2016

Great building, helpful friendly staff, good breakfast but although the room was fine it was far too hot and stuffy. The air con did not work at all, I was given a fan to use but did not sleep well as I was just too hot!

15.06.2016

Great central location/Friendly staff/ good bathroom with lovely shower/ room clean and a decent size but our window looked out on to area with beer barrels and was the area where staff took their break and could see straight into the room- we kept blind down which made room dark- privacy glass is needed.

23.06.2016

Ansonsten gut. Lage top.

14.06.2016

Beste Lage, sauber, freundlich und bequemes Bett. Zimmer etwas klein. Gutes Frühstücksbuffett
