The hotel was clean and well presented. The room was basic but clean and spacious. The lighting in the room was insufficient, it was difficult to put make up on. The location was perfect and the staff were always friendly and helpful.
Professional, prompt and friendly service in midst of a very hectic week at Edinburgh festival
Overrall we were very happy with our stay. We loved the central location, the friendly staff and how accommodating they were with keeping our luggage in the safe before and after we checked in/out. We liked the interior design in the rooms and reception/bar. A few things to note however, was that we paid a much higher price for the room than is usually charged and for this we received one of the smallest rooms on the side of the hotel with no view (facing a wall) which meant that no air could get into the room causing it to get quite hot. When we tried to cool it down the fan on the wall didn't work. I asked the receptionist to show me how to use it the next day - and I was using it correctly so it must have been broken. There was also no fridge to keep drinks or food cold in our hot room so we had to drink warm water and leave our food on the windowsill. This didn't bother us hugely though as we were only staying one night. Our other issue was the continental breakfast served. Luckily we hadn't paid in advance for this service, but we were planning on eating breakfast in the hotel on the Wednesday morning, but were very disappointed to see what was on offer - sliced cheese and processed ham is not exactly what I'd find enjoyable in the morning (especially costing £7.50). Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return (hopefully this time to a room with a view!)
The situation of the hotel for shopping and the castle was brilliant. Very comfortable and friendly. Just one fault could find with the room was the socket access for the kettle, unless I missed one near the table. Thank you.
well located Quite pricey in the Edinburgh festival week. Weather was very cold and we had a corner room with 2 big windows which was cold. We kept trying to increase the heating but it didn't work. We had to go down late one night to ask for extra blankets from the night staff. When I asked about the heating in the morning the day staff said oh they should have given you a heater as we haven't put the heating on yet !! I said it would be good if they had told the night staff that the hotel heating wasn't switched on !! If I had been staying at a Premier inn they would have offered your money back but there was never any possible mention of this !! I
One of the best hotels in which to stay. Great contemporary design and very comfortable room. Staff were welcoming and very efficient. Also great central location from which to explore and enjoy Edinburgh. I have been recommending Motel One to all and sundry.
Excellent hotel. I am and my son 12 years old the first time staying at the Motel One hotel and we loved it. Spacious room, new accessories in the bathroom and the room, cleanliness and comfort. Will be staying in hotels group Motel One any more, especially as frequent visit Germany. Surprised by the lack of soap ..
I chose this hotel to stay overnight in the City during the festival, living near Edinburgh I knew its location would be ideal, near the train station and near to everything going on in the fringe. Although it is part of a German hotel chain The Edinburgh hotel has a very Scottish feel to it, in a tastefully renovated building in the Old Town. All the staff very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed a drink in the bar next to the fire that was very warming on a wet windy evening. The rooms were very fresh and clean. I will certainly book this hotel again.
Clean, modern, free wifi, very friendly reception staff. But......Nowhere put clothes. There are two railings to hang clothes in public view and a couple of open shelves to display your underwear etc if desired. Forced to live out of luggage. Very unsatisfactory. Also power sockets are one metre off the floor. No lead is that long including that of the provided kettle. Had to move the furniture around to have a cup of tea!
We loved our short stay in your great hotel. Only gripe was that the reception was a little grubby when we arrived. Needed a good Hoover around. Everything else was very good.
No A/C in room.
I enjoyed my stay very much. The hotelstaff is very frendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean. Only for breakfast it gets a bit crowded. But all in one I can really recommend the motel.
Hotel was clean, comfortable and a great location but the room was quite minimalist and would have benefitted from some basic things - hand soap for the bathroom and bed side tables for example.
First class stay with friendly and attentive staff.
We have had a wonderful stay at the Edinburgh Waverley Motel One Hotel. The room, the location, the bar and the staff were all excellent. This was our second visit and we will be back again next year.
It was lovely!
Hotel and service met our every need and expectations.
The staff were friendly and the rooms clean and comfortable. The location was perfect as we came for the Festival, near the station and the Royal Mile.
My wife had a very enjoyable stay at motel One. Te central position of the motel met our purposes exactly as we were able to walk to the Tattoo and to the Fringe events we had come to see plus close access to restaurants and other facilities. It was clean and efficient and the young staff were friendly, happy, and helpful throughout our stay. For the price, the room was excellent and the facilities met or requirements. Breakfast was very enjoyable, served with spotless crockery and cutlery with very attentive staff at all times.
I would have scored higher but there was a problem with the booking. I made the reservation via booking.com for August for one person. When I arrived the hotel stated they did not have my booking. Whilst I waited I was then told they did have my booking but for September for two people. I was told that this was the fault of booking.com. I produce my email print out showing confirmation of the booking dates and cost. I was told the hotel had by luck one room available but I would be charged more than I was quoted. The manager declined to address this matter and I was told I would have to speak to booking.com about the reservation and charge. Booking.com have now investigated this matter and state it was not their fault and they confirmed the dates and cost of booking and told me that it was the hotels fault. The hotel have now refunded the difference but I still feel I have been lied to and treated poorly. Other than that I think the hotel is in a good location, well presented, smart and modern.
We were happy with everything except the floor above us was squeaky and we were disturbed in the morning when we wanted to have lay in.
Fab location basic clean hotel , lovely helpful staff.
This was my second stay in the same hotel in Edomburgh and I must say that the experience was really negative compared to the first one. The room was very small, situate at the level of external stairs so we were forced to stay in the room always with closed curtains. The air conditioning was broken and the room was very cold, when we complained about the situation they put an external heating machine during our absence and when we came back to the room there ware almost 35 degrees forcing us to leave for about one hour the door open.
Nice modern motel, quite impersonal and only superficially warm. You really feel you are in one of many similar hotels of the same chains in the word. Our room was quite difficoult to reach (we had to take two different lifts and several aisles) and incredibly small. However, the overall aspect was nice, the room was clean and nice, the entrance of the hotel is quite welcoming (even if most of the time it was really crowded, so it was not easy to relax there). All that aside, the best point for this motel is the position, perfect for the old city centre but also at walking distance from most of the interesting parts of the city. The airport bus also stops just in front of it. Moreover, compared to the other hotels we saw while booking, the price is good.
Room was tiny, with 2 seemingly smaller than normal single beds pushed together, room was very basic with out most usual facilities (Iron, Telephone) Noise was unbearable at times from the outside and people checking in, coupled with the noise coming from the elevator as it announced every stop or door opening it was performing on every floor relentlessly (which could clearly be heard through out my stay, even through the night. loud clunky banging doors shutting everywhere in other rooms mixed with very thing walls throughout the hotel.. certainly not a place for any kind of relaxation and far to overpriced just to get your head down for the night... very disappointed after what I was charged..
We visited for the tatoo. Very convenient location for the castle and other attractions in the old town. Station just down the road.
Only stayed the one night but found the staff friendly, room clean and the right size. Would stay again
Girl at reception was very welcoming, all staff approachable and helpful from in corridors to breakfast staff, all nice. Only reason not scoring 10 are for silly reasons - minimalist is lovely but perhaps a small soap in bathroom and a bin in the bedroom, else very comfortable and stylish. Location is superb! Shall certainly book again.
Clean room. Great location. Awkward to plug jug in. No wireless in room and room not serviced.
Great location, nice room and overall a very nice hotel. Would definitely stay here again.
Only two things missing: Hair shower cap Had no tomato sauce or wasn't offered any other type of sauces in the bar.
We stayed two nights in two different rooms. The air conditioning did not seem to work in either room. Otherwise, we had an excellent experience with Motel One!
Toilet did not flush in first room we were given and was not very good in the second room. Room temperature was cold and thermostat either not working or we could not get it to work (weather chilly in Edinburgh). The shower was open and was level to the floor so the bathroom floor was wet. Imagine this will corrupt the grouting in time. Breakfast and bar staff were great
Overall experience was great. Check in a bit chaotic as a large party had arrived just before us. Great room. Great breakfast. Superb location.
Our stay was wonderful, If Iwas to make any criticism at all it would be to say that there was an extremely buckled metal panel on our ceiling in room 555, Apart from that we were very impressed
small room, no fire instructions on door, difficult to find rooms in annex, no shaver point to charge toothbrush
If I had known that "room with a view" would mean the view to the stone brick wall of the building opposite the hotel I would not have bothered paying the extra. Everything else was excellent Motel One Service that I am used to! The breakfast buffet looked particularly fresh and yummy. Personally, I loved the little poppy seed rolls. The croissants were less nice. Staff were doing their best to manager large amounts of people for the comparatively small breakfast area. The tables could have been cleaner (some staff were simply swiping crumbs to the floor before the next guest sat down). Room and facilities were excellent. There was even a continental power socket!
We booked for two nights at the weekend during the Fringe festival so it was massively overpriced but no at much as other hotels in the city. The check in was flawless. We were early but staff quickly took our luggage to store until later. Check in was fuss free and professional. Very efficient staff throughout our stay. The room is modern, clean and functional. We had room 610 that had two windows that open so plenty of fresh air. However, I ended up closing them due to the noise from the street keeping us awake!! Its a city so to be expected. We did no thear any noise from other guests. The location is perfect. Two minutes over the road from the train station. Pubs and cafes on the doorstep and the Royal Mile less that 5 minutes walk also. Princess Street also 5 minutes walk. The room is basic and, if honest, if you were to stay more that a couple of days it would present issues regards storage. There are no drawers and only 6 hangers on an open rail. More toilettries would be a bonus - a bar of soap maybe. Tea and coffee, hairdryer and TV quite acceptable. The bed and pillows were super comfy and overall a good sleep. We would definitely stay here again for the German efficiency and the clean room. We didnt eat in the hotel so cannot comment, however, the breakfast looked very good continental buffet.
Reception was very friendly and helpful. The room was a little tight as it was on a corner. Very little space to put clothes and the windows could have done with nets as it was at street level! Unfortunately the room was cold and there were no facilities for warming it up, only AC if it were too hot.
Hotel was clean and had lovely decor. However I requested a quiet room and was put in room 556. I was kept awake till 4am due to excessively loud music. Very dissapointing.
Would have been excellent, but toilet and kettle did not work first night :(
Good location, very nice room but much more light will be appreciated, expecially at the room entrance. Brekfast was also very good with wide choice.
Hotel is well located in Edimburgh. Accomodations were ok. Size the room was quite good, as well as bed, towels, matress and pillows. No ammenities in the room (the for the same price we can find hotel with safe, frigo, cafeteria, something to improve it). The continental breakfast was quite nice, nothing extraordinary, but everything was fresh. The reception staff was very friendly. I´ll stay again at motel One in the future.
Having stayed at the hotel before, we knew what to expect and were equally delighted with our second stay. We were allocated room 407, which we enjoyed as it was quiet. We particularly valued the free internet access.
Really liked the hotel. Will definitely stay at a Motel One again. I just wish the instructions for regulating the heat and air cooling system were posted in the room. I suffered through a very hot night (despite cool outdoor temperatures) not knowing there was air cooling. The hotel seemed really overheated in general. I wish breakfast was included in the price. Other than that, the hotel was great.
