TRADITIONALLY MODERN IN BLACK, RED AND GREEN

The design concept of the Motel One Freiburg

Cuckoo! Traditional red hats glimmer between densely-packed pine trees, softly sloped vineyards are filled with the promise of a good harvest and full glasses... We aim to pay tribute to the richness of the culture and natural beauty in the Black Forest region around Freiburg with our interior design concept in the Motel One Freiburg – in combination with a generous dose of contemporary design.
Combining regional traditions with modern features? No problem!

You are immersed in the mystical atmosphere of the Black Forest from the moment you enter the reception area. The floor, made of oil shale, and the silver-coated back wall of the reception play with two natural resources that helped to shape the region. A classic landscape motif, depicted in abstract as a pointillist artwork, provides a wonderful representation of the local Freiburg mountains – complete with roaring stag – without descending into kitsch.

The rural character is emphasised with wood elements and the natural shapes and colours of the chairs and couches from  B&B Italia and Moroso. Another original detail is the Woodheart carpet from the Cologne label Floor to Heaven, which is patterned like a tree stump and perfectly suits days spent exploring the dense pine forests and vineyards. Original BTC lights then illuminate the check-in area and create a connection to the street lights that can be seen throughout the city outside.

Our One Lounge welcomes you in the style of a modern Black Forest chalet.

Baxter  rocking chairs by a digital fireplace and stools inspired by the region’s traditional dress provide exciting new interpretations of traditional elements. Real wooden parquet flooring and classic cuckoo clocks ensure a cosy rustic atmosphere. The clocks were exclusively handmade for us by Christophe Herr, one of the region’s best-known clock carvers. You can take a peek over the shoulder of this clockmaking master at work here – this is no cloud-cuckoo land!

‘Wine not?’ is our bar’s design motto

– after all, Baden is Germany’s third-largest wine region. The back wall, made with around 1,750 empty wine bottles, is literally the highlight of the hotel: each bottle is fitted with LED lights that set the scene at the bar with a particular rhythm. They move between light and dark, reminiscent of vine leaves shifting in the sunlight. You can sit here with a glass in hanging chairs by Studio Stirling and let yourself fully relax, just as if you were sitting in the boughs of a tree in an idyllic vineyard.

The Freiburg illustrator Tillmann Waldvogel has designed the walls of the breakfast area to inspire you to go out and explore the streets first thing in the morning.

His sketch-like compositions are painted on old original floorboards from a Black Forest chalet and adorn the room with typical city scenes, from the Bächle to Münster farmer’s market – and these can also be found in the individual rooms thanks to his wallpaper designs. Small colourful Bächle boats provide one final Freiburg touch to the decoration. Now the only thing missing is a large slice of Black Forest cake...
