The capital of Bavaria

Cheap budget hotel in Munich

Grüß Gott and welcome to Minga! Munich is a city of contrasts: warm-hearted Bavarian hospitality, the centuries-old art of German brewing, Oktoberfest and hearty, traditional cuisine meet state-of-the-art venues such as BMW Welt and the Allianz Arena. We operate eight affordable design hotels in the Bavarian capital, so you're never without a comfortable bed during your business trip, city break or Oktoberfest experience.

Guests of our Motel One enjoy unique designs, caring service, modern rooms with free Wi-Fi, and a healthy, varied breakfast buffet. The contrast of traditional Bavarian customs, on the one hand, and Munich's status as an innovative economic powerhouse, on the other, makes the state capital a veritable magnet for tourists and business travellers alike. Don't forget to sing along to the classic Bavarian song: “In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus…!”

Budget design hotels in Munich – your Motel One

Thanks to the city's outstanding public transport network, you can reach any part of central Munich within minutes of leaving our hotel. We recommend that you start your tour of the old town at Karlsplatz, the beginning of the pedestrian area. There's always something going on at “Stachus”, as the people of Munich lovingly call the square: it is bustling with locals and tourists alike, even on Sundays and public holidays.

If you pass through the western gate of the old town and continue along the pedestrian precinct, you will soon spot the striking twin towers of the Munich Frauenkirche, soaring above the roofs of the well-preserved historical houses. This church is the symbol of the Bavarian capital and the tallest building in the old town. Legend has it that the devil himself paid a visit – can you spot his footprints in the stone floor of the church entrance?

Take a few more steps and you will reach the neo-Gothic town hall on Marienplatz with its eponymous figure of the Virgin Mary and the toy museum. To get a bird’s eye view of the metropolis, climb St Peter's Church (or “Old Pete”, as the locals lovingly call it). The 91-metre climb on 300 stairs is well worth it, especially on a clear day: the view over the city, Isar river and the Alps in the distance is truly stunning.

Viktualienmarkt, Isartor and the Hofbräuhaus – well worth a visit

And the climb is sure to make you hungry, too – a perfect opportunity to head towards Viktualienmarkt, where a long row of food stalls offers anything from meat and fish to fresh fruit and all sorts of other delicacies. Once you've recharged your batteries, have a look at the Isartor gate that marks the eastern border of the old town. Pay attention to the clock on the western side of the gate. It runs anti-clockwise to honour Willy Brandt's famous quote, “the clocks tick differently in Bavaria”.

Our affordable hotels in Munich are within easy reach of the Englischer Garten with its famous river surfing spot, Alter Hof, Feldherrnhalle, Hofgarten and, of course, the Hofbräuhaus. At the end of the day, reflect on your Bavarian experiences over a cool drink in our fashionable Motel One bar.
