To our design story

Ready for a stay on the Fleetinsel?

Ahoy and welcome to our hotel on Hamburg’s Fleetinsel, an island in the heart of the Hanseatic city. Both sea dogs and landlubbers are welcome at our design hotel! But let’s start right at the beginning: what is a fleet, anyway?
This is the term used to refer to navigable canals in northern German coastal cities in general and in Hamburg in particular. And so, framed by the Herrengrabenfleet and the Alsterfleet, there is an island in the heart of Hamburg’s city centre, which is now also home to our Motel One Hamburg-Fleetinsel.

From music to miniature lands

Whether you want to explore the floating dock (Landungsbrücken), the Jungfernstieg promenade or the HafenCity quarter – from the central Fleetinsel, you can discover the city in all directions. Classic sights such as the Hamburg town hall, St. Michael’s Church (known as the ‘Hamburger Michel’) and the entertainment district around the Reeperbahn are within easy walking distance. Culture vultures will be especially impressed by the hotel’s proximity to the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, and the famous Speicherstadt district is just a walk away. This warehouse complex, along with the neighbouring Kontorhaus District and the fascinating Chilehaus building, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015 – and a trip to Hamburg simply isn’t complete without seeing it. Whether you’re strolling through the alleyways between the historic brick buildings by foot or sailing along the canals on a boat. This district is also home to ‘Miniatur Wunderland’, the Spice Museum and, if the sea air whets your appetite, a wide range of culinary options at the various cafés, bars and restaurants.

Even though there’s so much to discover in ‘the pearl of the North’, as the city of Hamburg is fondly called, you don’t necessarily have to hoist your anchor and step out of the hotel door: you can also just relax in our design hotel. Enjoy our extensive breakfast buffet, free wifi, convenient check-in and check-out times in addition to rooms with the latest flat-screen TVs and box-spring beds fit for royalty – and these are only a few of the reasons to simply unwind when you stay with us. Pay a visit to the Lounge or head to the bar, where we’d be happy to serve you a good drink or a little snack, and our friendly staff, instead of spinning sailor’s yarns, will provide you with information about the city, the country and the fleet. Or, when it’s time for you to go, they’ll tell you which S-Bahn train will take you directly to Hamburg’s central station or airport.

Built on the water

The fresh sea breeze of the Hanseatic city also finds its way into our hotel interior – figuratively speaking, of course – because the design of our affordable hotel draws heavily on the maritime influences that shape Hamburg’s cityscape and atmosphere. From the colour scheme and the shape of the furniture to decorative details – wherever you go in the hotel, you’ll find references to port life. After all, Hamburg is Germany’s largest and most important sea port. From cargo ships to luxury liners – practically every seaworthy vessel docks here. Are you also looking for a quiet place to set anchor in Germany’s ‘gate to the world’? Then we look forward to welcoming you to our Motel One Hamburg-Fleetinsel, where you’ll find modern design, maximum comfort and fantastic value for money.
