Hotels in Kassel
Kassel – a city of cultural wealth and variety!
Located at the heart of Europe, Kassel is a centre for science, art and culture with a wealth of research facilities and institutes. Established in 1955, the “documenta” exhibition of contemporary art is now held every five years and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world. Records also show that English actors regularly appeared at court in Kassel from the 16th century onwards. With a 500-year-old history, Kassel's state orchestra is one of the world's oldest musical ensembles. You will also find no end of museums and art galleries to wander around and explore. Kassel is also rich with parks and gardens and nature lovers should take a stroll over to Wilhelmshöhe. The Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe is a unique and world famous park landscape that boasts more than 500 varieties of wood. Highlights of the park include the Wilhelmshöhe castle, the artificial ruins of the Löwenburg (Lions Castle) and the Hercules monument – the city's landmark. Another absolute viewing must are the giant cascades at the foot of the monument. Visit in the summer months and watch the water rush down the waterfalls, over the Roman ruins and under bridges and end up by the palace where it gushes 50 metres up from the Grand Fountain (check for times as the cascades are only activated one or two days a week).
