Gin, Gin

Motel One has put together a menu of 40 handpicked favourites from the multitude of gins currently doing the rounds.

Gin is in. English classics meet European favourites and juniper-based shooting stars from Munich, Berlin, Vienna and Hamburg. But that’s not all: every Motel One is complemented with a selection of local gin varieties – often from small, young distilleries – which underline the regional aspect of the respective locations.

The bars are being highlighted even more. They are already a meeting point to relax or work and attract both, hotel guests as well as people from the neighbourhood, with the versatile bar concept. Motel One stands out for their love for design detail and excellent drinks.

As a special highlight Motel One brought in two masters of their craft: the star mixologists Cihan Anadologlu and Kan Zuo. Both of them exclusively created five Signature. G&Ts for Motel One – and we took a look over their shoulder.

KAN ZUO, 32,

is one of the major stars on Austria’s bar scene. Last year he was named Bartender of the Year and his "Sign Lounge" in Vienna has been considered one of the best bars in Austria for years. Zuo immigrated to Austria from China when he was 14 years old and wants to tell complex stories with cocktails. He is showing us what that tastes like with "Sounds of The Ring Nr. 2", which he created exclusively for the Austrian gin menu of Motel One.

Here’s his recipe so you can try it out at home:
2 cl Wien Gin, 1 cl Calamansi balsamic vinegar, 1 cl lemon juice, 1 cl sugar syrup, 2 dashes of Chocolate Bitters, 7 cl of Schweppes Dry Tonic Water Dip the rim of the champagne glass in coffee flavoured liqueur followed by sugar and serve!

So what does his first Motel One signature cocktail taste like? Zuo: "Just the way Vienna should taste: tangy, refreshing and fruity!" Wonderful!

CIHAN ANADOLOGLU, 34,

you can go to a bar in jeans and sneakers, if you order a gin and tonic, you have a metaphorical suit on anyway!" This isn’t a quote from Ernest Hemingway, but Cihan Anadologlu, 34, who has created five
signature gin & tonics for Motel One’s German gin menu.

Bar star Anadologlu runs "Circle" in Munich and created the official cocktail at the Oscars in 2014. "Balanced and for every taste" is how he sums up the gin & tonics he has mixed for Motel One. His "Italian G&T" tastes of Campari and orange, his "Made in Germany" has a touch of grapefruit and those who like a bit of spice will love his "Spicy G&T" with chilli and lime.

If you ask Anadologlu about his personal preferences, he will mention the “Garden G&T" created with The Botanist Gin and Maraschino. A few dashes of Celery Bitters, mint, cucumber and Fentimans Tonic Water round off the drink. And what does he say to the new gin menu for Motel One? "A perfect blend of classic gins and smaller distilleries." Cheers to that!

We hope you’ll enjoy browsing and sampling your way through this compilation of gins as much as we have enjoyed putting it together for you.
